Join Jeff Roberts of Saxelby Cheesemongers as he leads a discussion about his book, The Atlas of American Artisan Cheese. He'll describe his cross-country sojourn meeting cheese makers and discovering some of the most obscure handmade cheeses being crafted in America today, while you'll nibble on some of those very cheeses. Grouse? Yes, grouse. It's grouse season, which is quite brief, running from August 12 through the end of the month. To celebrate, Orsay will present Scottish grouse dinners as the first in a series of special dinners focusing on game and specialty products from Scotland (menus dedicated to partridge, pheasant and wood pigeon are in the works). Rain or shine, there will be cold beer, live music, and Niman Ranch pork and chicken slow-cooked by the Waterfront Alehouse's own Sam Barbieri, Steve Harkavy, Bon Soir Caterers' Jeff Reilly, and Rob Richter of Big Island Barbeque. Proceeds from this year's event go to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Beer and Food are included with admission. Advance tickets $75.
