Doctor Accused of Using Own Sperm in Artificial Insemination

A doctor based in Greenwich, Connecticut lost his New York medical license after admitting to using the wrong sperm to impregnate a woman who subsequently gave birth to twins. But Ben Ramaley is still permitted to practice gynecology and obstetrics in Connecticut, though perhaps not for much longer. After agreeing to pay a $10,000 fine to the couple and refrain from performing artificial inseminations, the case was sealed. But now Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal caught wind of it, and he's considering prosecuting Dr. Ramaley.

A woman is upset her daughter can't visit her mobster dad in prison. Regina Granato and Colombo family associate husband Kevin Granato managed to smuggle his sperm--taken in the middle of his 25-year prison sentence--out for her to conceive now 9-year-old Gianna. (Prison officials found out about the scheme when the baby came to visit and Granato said it was his daughter.) Regina Granato tells the Staten Island Advance that her husband was suddenly moved from a Pennsylvania federal prison to one in Oregon, making it impossible to visit him because doctors advise Gianna, who has a heart condition, not take long trips. Regina Granato, who served 9 months probation and a hundred hours of community service, says little Gianna is devastated she can't see her dad, "They hate us for what we did. They hate us just because she was born."

Newsday reports a Nassau County doctor who donated sperm to a co-worker over 18 years ago is "legaly considered the father and may have to pay child support for the college-bound teenager." The doctor says he donated the sperm to his co-worker and her partner; he had agreed to give up rights and benefits to the child,...
