Eddy Curry limped off the court and the season may have gone with him. At this point, we know very little about his injury other than the fact the medical staff called it “serious”. What we do know is that without Curry, the Knicks are headed into a tailspin. He was the focus of the offense and had even added some rebounding this year. Tests are expected back sometime today.

Because of the partnership with Time Warner and Comcast, it is believed that the Mets network will be carried on basic cable. The only quesion is if it will be on Cablevision. The Mets have one year left on its Cablevision contract after paying $54 million for an early out. So will Cablevision want to pay their competitors for a team that spurned them? We'll see. Of course, if the Mets play like they have this year, will anyone want to pay to watch them?

162 games after they began, the Mets have finally finished the season with a record of 71-91, good for 4th in the National League East. For what it's worth, the Mets improved from last year when they finished last in the NL East and with 5 less wins. The season ended with a win against the Montreal Expos, a team that moving to Washington D.C. and the retirement of Todd Zeile and possibly the end of John Franco's career.

And, again, Anna Benson. The week in full from Gothamist Sports.

In almost two years with the Mets, Howe is 129-177, which when compared to the record of their crosstown rivals (193-115), looks mighty paltry. Obviously, the two teams aren't close in talent, but with a payroll at just under $100 million, one would hope they Mets would be a better team. There is no way that the blame falls completely on Howe, who had a team with potential this season, but was decimated with injuries throughout the season. Then again, winning teams can deal with diversity, the Mets have not.

Aaron Heilman picked up his first win of the season in game one in six innings of work. Heilman gave up four runs and the Mets offense came alive to take the lead in the sixth inning.

Tonight, the Mets take on the Florida Marlins, who have won seven consecutive, in Miami. With any luck on the part of the Mets, the game will be rained out by the remnants of Hurricane Frances. Better yet, maybe they can finally scrape out a win.

Newsday points out that the Mets are now a whopping nine games below .500. That elusive mark that the Mets toyed with earlier in the season seems all but out of the picture at this point. The good news is that the Mets string of games with "who dat's" in the lineup may end Monday when Mike Piazza returns.

In the first inning, Barry Bonds, the aforementioned huge-headed slugger hit a two run homer to put the Giants on top. The Giants and Mets could have saved everyone about two hours and called it a game. The Mets went on to only score one run despite getting eight hits, one more than the Giants had.

The Mets are 8 games out of first and 8.5 games out of last. They are slightly closer to the wild card than they are to first place. With the trades the Mets made last week, there is still some hope for improvement, but we're wondering if there are any Met fans out there that aren't thinking of next year already.

Last night, Reyes injured his ankle in the 3rd when he attempted to turn a single into a double. He turned his ankle near second and then made an awkward slide into the bag. He got up and played on. Things would only get worse. The next inning, he played in the field and came to bat again in the 5th. During his at-bat in the 5th, he fouled a ball off his injured right ankle and then hit a shot off the wall but could only make it to first. Reyes was finally taken out of the game two innings after sustaining the initial injury.

Luckily for Glavine, the Mets had some offense last night. Mike Cameron hit his second home run of the two game series in the 6th inning. The three run shot off Zach Day proved to be the game-winning hit. Glavine's record is now back to .500 at 8-8, but the Mets are still three games below that mark.

"I thought the ball was in the alley," Mets Manager Art Howe said.

A week ago, the Mets were in Philadelphia splitting a four game series with the Phillies. Last night, they started another four game series at Shea and got off to a great start. They won the game in 11 innings, 3-2 (box score). With the victory, they are a game out of first place, trailing the Phillies and the Braves.

With a chance to go into the break on a positive note, the Mets fell to the Marlins yesterday, 5-2 (box score). In the 93° Florida heat, Al Leiter only pitched three innings but threw 88 pitches in the outing. The number was a result of several long battles with hitters. The Times reports that Leiter went through "two 12-pitch at-bats, two nine-pitch at-bats and one eight-pitch at-bat" all in a six batter stretch.

In last night's game against the Phillies, Hidalgo batted in the clean-up slot for the Mets for the first time. Before the game, Cliff Floyd went to Art Howe to ask for a change in the line-up. The line-up card was already posted, but Floyd reasoned with Howe who agreed to switch Hidalgo and Floyd in the batting order. Floyd was only hitting .207 against lefthanders and Randy Wolf was the lefty pitcher slated to start for Philadelphia. Hidalgo went 2-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. His home run streak ended, but his nine game hitting streak is still alive. During those nine games .471 with 7 home runs and 11 runs batted in.

Last week, Art Howe changed the rotation to save Tom Glavine, the Mets ace, for games against the Phillies and Marlins, giving them a chance to make progress in the NL East. While the interleague games may mean little in the standings, Cliff Floyd knows that fans love them. After Sunday's perfect ending, he said the following about Mets fans, "It isn't easy for those people. I know that. We know that. You got Yankees fans all around you, and they're a great team. It feels good to be able to give out fans something to feel good about. The way they support us, and the way the have to fight Yankees fans, they deserve this. They earned this. It's good to be a New York Mets fan right now."

Every time the Mets get to one game over .500, the Mets fail to get to two games above .500. Last night was no different. The Mets are 0-5 this season when they have a chance to go 2 games above .500. Last night's chance was blown in the 12th inning when Sean Casey hit a two-run home run off of John Franco that resulted in a 6-4 loss (box score).

Al Leiter pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings in yesterday's game to improve to 2-2. Despite his record, Leiter has been pitching exceptionally well. In nine starts, his ERA is a miniscule 1.98, but with little run support, his record does not reflect his pitching. Lucky for Leiter, the Mets' bats came thorough yesterday. Mike Piazza's two-run double and and Karim Garcia's RBI single in the first inning gave the Mets all the runs they would need. Piazza also hit his third home run in two days in the fifth inning to add to the run tally.

Last night, Steve Trachsel threw 6 2/3 shutout innings and Mike Stanton and John Franco finished the game, extending the Mets streak of shutout innings to 22. The Mets got started in the 3rd inning when Mike Piazza, the man the Mets can always turn to, hit a single to scoring Danny Garcia. Piazza also had a solo home run in the 6th inning. In the 7th inning, with two outs and the Mets up 3-0, Ty Wigginton dropped the ball (literally) to load the bases, extending the inning and ending the night for Trachsel. The error is the latest thing to make Flushing Local wonder if it's time for him to go. Lucky for the Mets, Stanton struck out Jimmy Rollins to end the inning.

- Jason Phillips suffered a brain cramp when he began trotting to first as if he'd drawn a walk - in reality, it was only 3-2 in the count.
