Arctic Square in Greenpoint
You can listen to some of Arctic Square's music here; CMJ calls they're "exuberant ’70s-style three-chord rock" with a "refined pop aesthetic."
Arctic Square Tomorrow Night
We can't wait until tomorrow night when good friends Graham, Eric, and Sam perform as Arctic Square at the Luna Lounge as part of the CMJ Music Marathon. What's their sound? Well, besides being rocking out with some really beautiful music, have a listen yourself as their new EP, This is Proved Mathematically, is on their site for download. We're partial to the song, "Igloo."
Mail Boxes Etc. is the New Schwab's
Indie rock enthusiasts and the curious will be headed to the Mail Boxes Etc. on 8th Avenue and 12th Street. MBE employee Justin Moore was given a huge profile in the NY Times as Mail Boxes Employee by day, member of band Orange Park at all other times. While an interesting look at Moore's double life, it reaffirms (and the article does so as well) that the city is full of people who have interests beyond their jobs that can take on lives of their own. (That i-banker you meet is a personal trainer on the side; the woman in accounting is a stylist.)
Gothamist Does Passover
It was another festive evening at the annual Dobkin-Greengold Second Night Seder. I got there late, after the Haggadah had been read, but all was okay because there was more than enough brisket to go around. (I also made Ezra save me some - thanks Ez.) There was also turkey, kosher stuffing, potato kugel, gefilte fish, charoset, asparagus, salad, and, of course, matzoh ball soup.
