Just past midnight, police were called to a luxury apartment building in the Financial District. When they arrived, they found a man shot in the head inside 2 Gold Street. Max Moreno, a 21-year-old NJ resident, was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

NJ Apt Building Bomb Scare Not Terrorism, Just Tenantism
Will 2010 be the summer of bomb scares? The latest in a seemingly endless series took place in Jersey City this morning, where police and firefighters investigating a gas leak found a crude bomb in the basement of a three-story building. Sources tell 1010 WINS that a gas line in the building was deliberately broken and was filling the building with fumes. A "crude device" was discovered attached to the gas line, with wires connected to a door hinge. Investigators believe the device was intended to explode if the door opened and caused the wires to touch.
5 Dead in Raging Brooklyn Blaze
An out-of-control fire at a Bensonhurst apartment building killed five, and caused a mother to throw two children out a window early this morning. "It was not a normal fire," said FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief John Sudnik. According to the Daily News the blaze, that firefighters battled for over three hours, started at a first-floor restaurant, though the exact cause is unknown.

During Monday's blaze at a Bronx high-rise, firefighters came upon the corpse of a man whose throat had been slashed. Donald Holliday, a 53-year-old whom neighbors described as a "loner," had been knifed a dozen times in the chest and slashed across the neck. Building Miscommunications During UES Fire
Some troubling news about yesterday's three-alarm fire at 200 East 72nd Street which left 19 firefighters and 14 resident injured. Apparently the fire alarm system had been undergoing repairs (there were complaints about "multiple false alarms" according to the Sun), which led to chaos. The building is "fireproof," and the FDNY says residents should have just stayed in their apartment, but many tried to leave the building.
Three-Alarm Fire in Upper East Side Building
Earlier this morning, a fire started on the ground floor of an apartment building on East 72nd Street and Third Avenue, causing all 34 floor to be evacuated. Two firefighters were seriously hurt, while four others and thirteen civilians suffered minor injuries.
