Phil Hughes in 2010 on the road- almost perfect. Phil Hughes in 2010 at home- ugh. Unfortunately for Hughes and the Yankees, Tuesday’s game was at home and the results were to be expected. Hughes got shelled and the Yankees couldn’t get anything going off of Sean O’Sullivan.
Last Night's Action: Double Downer
Last Night's Action: Sweep
Mets 7 LA 3: Maybe we will look back at this 9-1 homestand as the moment the Mets signaled they were back as a power in the NL. Maybe we will look back at it as the highpoint of the season. For now, just enjoy it as the Mets are on a streak and headed to Philly after sweeping the Dodgers. John Maine struck out nine over six innings while Ike Davis continued his hot start with two more hits and a RBI. Angel Pagan added two RBI’s on a triple and David Wright added two hits.
Last Night's Action: Mets Score on Vulnerable Cubs Pen
The Mets opened a four-game series against the Cubs Monday night by getting things off right, winning 6-1. New York scored 5 runs in the 7th inning, which featured a two-run home run by Angel Pagan. The game was also the Major League debut of Mets 1st baseman Ike Davis. Davis had two singles on the night and an RBI during the team's 7th inning rally. Jonathon Niese pitched into the 6th inning, but was unable to pick up his first win of the season.
Last Night's Action: Pagan Slams The D-Backs
- Mets 9 Arizona 6: New York got back to winning thanks to a grand slam from Angel Pagan. Pagan’s shot in the 8th broke open a 5-5 game. The Mets had takes a 4-2 lead in the fourth, but Oliver Perez was shaky again. Perez did a Nuke LaLoosh impression, striking out seven while walking five over five innings and 112 pitches. Despite his wildness, Perez would have earned the win if Bobby Parnell hadn’t given up two runs in the sixth. But, Pagan bailed him out and K-Rod bailed out Brian Stokes in the ninth to record his 24th save.
Last Night's Action: Another Walk-Off
- Yankees 3 Minnesota 2 (10 innings): The Twins must be getting tired of seeing the same thing everyday. For the third-straight time the Yankees won the game in their last at bat. This time the hero was Johnny Damon who lofted a 3-2 pitch into the rightfield stands for the win. Damon’s heroics capped a comeback by New York. Down 2-0, the heroes of Friday and Saturday got the game tied when A-Rod homered and Melky added a RBI . In the 8th, both teams turned outstanding defensive plays to keep the game tied. Mark Teixeira made a great throw at home to nail a runner and Joe Mauer made a superb lunge to the plate to nail Brett Gardner. Alfredo Aceves pitched an inning of relief to earn his second win of the year.
