It’s said that when Dick Cheney was tasked with vetting potential Veeps for the Bush campaign, he carefully considered all the applicants before recommending the best man for the job: himself. Perhaps tearing a page from Vader’s playbook, Dark Lord Balthazar – AKA Gawker Media Czar Nick Denton – has found the ideal replacement to helm his flagship website in the wake of managing editor Choire Sicha’s resignation: an eager young go-getter from sector 7G named... Nick Denton! (We interviewed Sicha in the midst of all that drama.)

The current New York Magazine dives deep inside the navel with seven sprawling pages on Gawker. The rather tame procedural is conducted by Vanessa Grigoriadis, who's up front with the disclosures: Her NY Times wedding announcement was savaged by Gawker, New York Magazine currently employs two former Gawker editors, and Grigoriadis peeped managing editor Choire Sicha’s underwear.

The Observer has an article that, upon reading it, appears to have been written two years ago. "Blog Ghetto" scratches the surface of a scene that's been around for quite a while, and uncovers things such as: bloggers sometimes hang out with each other...and drink...at The Magician (and other "Hell Square" watering holes). The profile on the scene makes it seem very 90210-esque, even calling The Magician "Blogger High's Peach Pit" and picking out a Dylan McKay-esque resident stud (apparently A.J. Daulerio).

Animal Magazine's 6th Issue comes out this week-- and Bucky was nice enough to messenger us over a copy, since we unfortunately missed Animal's "Save Krucoff" themed party at BLVD on Wednesday night. The magazine is beatuiful and glossy and filled with pictures of scantily clad girls-- but we were interested in one feature in particular: a series of interviews with some of our NYC blog colleagues. Our favorite quotes:

Yesterday, Jason Kottke posted what he felt is necessary to the perfect sandwich. After going back to the sandwich's humble beginings, he states:

The keys to a good sandwich are the three Bs: bread, balance, and...ok, there's only two Bs, but they're important. Aside from the main ingredient (turkey, tuna, chicken salad, etc.), the bread has the power to make or break a sandwich. The first thing you taste when you take a bite is the bread, so it had better be good and it had better be fresh.

Andrew Krucoff, beloved former-Gothamist interviewer, media maven and dark-horse candidate for the Media Bistro editor's job, was just fired from his research job at Conde Nast. His crime? Conde's servers went down last week, and Kru leaked the tech email to Gawker. They report:

UPDATE: Former Gothamist staffer Andrew Krucoff has leveled a startling charge - that his friend Chris Gage is writing the Gawkerist blog, and is being paid to do it! History in the making people! Probably best not to go to work today so you can watch as the news unfolds. UPDATE 2: The pie-ee has put up some pictures!

Attention: a few minutes ago, Andrew Krucoff rushed into the Gothamist newsroom. He was flushed and out of breath, but after a few minutes of heavy mouth-to-mouth, he was able to gasp out a few words: "Lockhart... Gawker... Denton." He then collapsed and we gently rolled his body back down the steps. [Correction: apparently, this did not really happen, and Krucoff helpfully points out that we probably read the news on MediaBistro this morning.] A few minutes of reporting filled in the details: Lockhart has resigned from Cottages and Gardens to become managing editor of Gawker Media. In this capacity, he will presumably parcel out fame and fortune, and crack the whip at his many blogger underlings. No word yet on these burning questions:

You're probably all saying, "Why go out after Gothamist's Movable Hype show last night? It's been done to perfection." That's a valid point, but the next week has quite a few worthwhile shows you should consider.

And was this sexual harrassment from Gothamist why Andrew Krucoff had to leave? Only Andrew knows.

"). At any rate, Gothamist is glad that he has lowered the curtain to reveal where he summers as well as his beginning as a print journalist, because it's something we've always wondered, too.

Gothamist is even going to take advantage of the weekend - we're summering in the city! It's be reduced posts across the site, but we'll back at full power on Tuesday. But there's tons of Gothamist to read if need your fix: Ask Gothamist, Gothamist Arts & Events, Gothamist Interview, Gothamist Sports, and Gothamist Weather. If clicking through so many sites is daunting, fear not, there's the Gothamist Digest that's everything Gothamist.

Lots of news at Casa de Gothamist this week, so let's just jump into it:

There will be more amazing people to get to know through the YMI in upcoming months, seasons, years, but Gothamist asked Krucoff, "Andrew Krucoff, if you were going to give us eleven important moments in the history of Andrew Krucoff's Young Manhattanite Interview, what would they be?" In turn, he emailed back "11 Interview Moments by Andrew Krucoff" (in chronological order):

Gothamist is happy to introduce a new feature on the site: the Gothamist Digest. This page has the current day's posts from all pages of Gothamist, including the Gothamist front page, Andrew Krucoff's YM Interview, Gothamist Weather, Ask Gothamist, and Gothamist Sports. We're going to try to integrate the Gothamist Events page in the coming weeks as well. The Digest is also available as an RSS feed (RSS1.0, RSS2.0), for those of you who want to syndicate it or read it through an RSS browser. Gothamist will continue to have each of the sections as standalone blogs, for those of you who prefer to browse section-by-section.

Of course, Gothamist knows and loves Krucoff because he brought us an idea that was ignored by Gawker. And in our research on Krucoff, we stumbled upon a bizarre Krucoff Vs. [Lockhart] Steele blog that's interesting to about ten people, but what people they must be!

The Post captures a great photo of Lopez, looking forlorn, wearing a Von Dutch hat. He was distraught, calling them his "kids," "Could you imagine if someone came into your apartment and took everything you loved and cared for? Some vengeful, hateful person did this to me." Lopez: Did you break up with anyone lately? Annoy a neighbor with your youthful, Generation X ways? Animal control also seized Lopez's pet tarantula (no name given), which is also against the law to own as a pet, but he still has a Great Dane and some fish. And if anyone knows Orlando Lopez, Gothamist wants Andrew Krucoff to interview him for the Young Manhattanite Interview.

Peter gives his first interview with Andrew Krucoff's Young Manhattanite Interview: "."

Read today's interview with funny Chelsea Peretti.

This week, we launched the Gothamist Interview, which has been fabulously steered by Andrew Krucoff. Plus, the week in full.

Today we'd like to introduce a new feature: the Gothamist Interview, written by Andrew Krucoff. The inaugural interview is with none other than Lockhart Steele, Lower East Side icon and famous dilettante. Other interviews on tap for this week: Chuck Klosterman of Spin, Danielle Romano of Daily Candy, and a surprise guest who may go by the name of Choire Sicha (girls, get your engines ready!). Andrew has an amusing interview style that is part Proust questionnaire, part People magazine, part insane stalker. Gothamist finds it rather compelling, and hope you will as well. Also be sure to check out Andrew's other site, The Other Page, where he blogs on a number of eclectic topics.
