The Daily News received renderings of what Coney Island may look like, if developer Thor Equities has its way. Thinkwell Design & Production designed a 6-acre plan for "Coney Island Park." Thinkwell creative director Chris Durmick said, "Whatever you come looking for at Coney Island, it's all going to be there." What happens in Coney Island, stays in Coney Island?

The latest new design (the fourth!) for the planned Moynihan train station at the James Farley Post Office on Eighth Avenue was revealed yesterday, and while it is less dramatic than previous incarnations, it seems like this design might actually be the one that's built. Funnily enough, the Empire State Development Corporation can't quite keep up, as the images it has are old designs, but architect grubbykid analyzed the drafts of the general project plan and environmental impact statement, which have more accurate images. One of the changes is that the ceiling of the main space will be barrel vaulted, versus undulating - but still glass-topped, for a glorious view of the sky (we predict it'll be a romantic setting for cafes, places to meet for first dates, and movies). And Curbed points out the potato chip-like skylight is back in. While patience might be a great virtue, Gothamist is too excited for this project and cannot wait to take the NJ Transit or LIRR from here, versus the horror that is the current Penn Station.

A judge has allowed the sale and redesign of 2 Columbus Circle, the bizarro building increasingly dwarfed by sleek skyscrapers. The Museum of Arts and Design had been fighting to get started on its new space for the past year, but various preservation groups filed a lawsuit to stop them from changing the facade of the Edward Durrell Stone building. Alternately called an icon of the Modern Movement and terrible 60s kitsch, the building was not approved as a landmark in 1996 by the Landmarks Preservation Commision, but it was on the National Historic Trust's list of endangered sites. The NY Times reports that the preservationists will still attempt further appeals.

Frontline's own site for sacred ground will go up after the show airs - we look forward to the page on Libeskind's and Childs's respective design philosophies. And Curbed notes how NY Times critic Nicolai Ouroussoff thinks New York City will be "Totally New" after certain buildings are built.
