Enchanting Amy Adams Cast In Central Park Into The Woods

Enchanting Amy Adams Cast In Central Park Into The Woods

Amy Adams is going to get a chance to belt Broadway tunes in Central Park this summer. Again. The Public Theater has announced that the Enchanted star is going to be playing the Baker's Wife in the upcoming, and highly anticipated by us, Shakespeare in the Park revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's fairy tale classic Into the Woods. Suddenly the line "this is ridiculous, what am I doing here, I'm in the wrong story!" will have a whole extra layer. more ›

Video: Is The New Muppets Movie An Amy Adams Rom-Com In Disguise?

We've been looking forward to the Jason Segel-scripted reboot of the Muppets for a few years now (the poster even got us giddy) so you'll understand when you watch the just-released trailer for the Thanksgiving flick why we freaked out for the first :50-odd seconds—where are the Muppets we were promised? Why are we watching a preview for an Amy Adams rom-com called Green With Envy? And then it all made sense: more ›

Movie Crew Brings 9/11 Tribute Back to St. Paul's Chapel

If you passed by St. Paul’s Chapel near the World Trade Center site yesterday you may have felt like you’d stepped back through time to the city’s raw, post-9/11 days, when the chapel’s fence was festooned with photos and tributes to the attack's victims. The new Nora Ephron movie Julie & Julia recreated the makeshift memorial, which was dismantled in November 2002. (Using a crane, the crew also pasted leaves to the trees.) more ›

Video of the Day: "Enchanted" in Central Park

Thanksgiving officially marks the start of the holiday movie season, and this weekend, one film seems poised to make a run for the box office crown. Enchanted, the Disney film that mixes animation and live-action to spoof its classic fairy tales, received some pretty stellar reviews. It's 92% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and most reviews are calling this the star-making performance of Amy Adams, who was nominated for a supporting actress Oscar for Junebug... more ›

The Cinecultist's Weekly Movie Pick: Baby On Board Edition

The Cinecultist's Weekly Movie Pick: Baby On Board Edition

, it's always a joy to see Bateman on screen, and he does some hilarious work as the obnoxious, wheelchair bound Ex. You want to punch him in his ascot-wearing face nearly every time he's on screen, and that's quite a feat for a guy who most recently played such a winning TV lead. In addition to Bateman nearly every other supporting part is filled by a solid comedic performer like Rudd, Charles Grodin, Donal Logue, Fred Armisen, Amy Poehler and Amy Adams. Each of them take totally throw away moments and sell them with such comedic sincerity. Also the plot line about career woman Sofia trying to adjust to being a stay-at-home mom is done with welcome deftness. It'd be great to see Peet in even more roles like this where her sensitivity and likability can shine through. Producers Ted Hope, Anne Carey and Anthony Bergman (ie. former nurturers of directors like Ang Lee, Nicole Holofcener and Michel Gondry) obviously understood that even though screenwriters David Guion and Michael Handelman as well as Jesse Peretz are just starting out in the biz, they all have the goods. more ›

Looking Into the Crystal Ball for the Oscars

Looking Into the Crystal Ball for the Oscars

As Jon Stewart takes to the stage this Sunday at 8 pm to host the 78th Annual Academy Awards, the movie-lovin' Gothamist will be watching with eager anticipation from our couch. The spectacle, the glamour, the bad musical numbers and cheesy memorial montages -- we love it all. In fact, Gothamist (ie. Jen Chung and movie correspondent Karen Wilson) will be live blogging the ceremony but in the meantime, here's a few predictions for the winners: more ›

Oscar Nominations 2006: Indie Movies Broke(back) Out of the Pack

It's the itch we can't scratch - the Academy Awards. We make sure we see the announcements at 8:30AM and then rush to work, thinking about the nominations while on the train. This morning, Academy President Sid Ganis and Mira Sorvino (who isn't doing anything else, anyway) announced the nominations. As expected, Brokeback Mountain, Good Night and Good Luck, and Capote earned many nominations, and Crash made a surprising showing with Best Picture, Best Director and even a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Matt Dillon. Other surprises/interesting things: more ›
