FILM: Tonight is one of the last Made in New York movie nights at MoMA. Tonight it's 1970 film, The Projectionist: "an early New York independent feature comedy much beloved by the young at heart about a lonely projectionist who works in a theater that shows “classic” films and whose imaginative daydreams transforms him into a hero, Captain Flash."
KEXP NYC
One of our favorite stations to listen to all day is KEXP, run out of Seattle, and through the magic of online streaming - heard worldwide. This week they're in New York broadcasting (as they are twice a year), putting on some shows and having many in-studio guests. They're in Philip Glass' old studio which is now Gigantic Music, where their musical guests include:
The Pita's New Year's Eve Music Picks
What? No New Year's plans? Leaving it a bit late, no? Forget the overcrowded bars, the swarms of amateurs, the lame-o house parties. There are a ridiculous number of shows happening around town, some of which are worth your time and some of which not so much. Many of them are sold out, but it's highly possible you could score with the scalpers. Let's have a little look-see, shall we?

A few times a week, Gothamist publishes music reviews by our contributor Jeff Baum. The opinions below belong entirely to the author.
Hurricane Katrina Benefits
Over the weekend the main topic of discussion was how to help out the people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Some New Yorkers are organizing events in order to raise money. We expect, and hope, there will be a lot more coming up in the next few months. For now take a look below at some of the upcoming benefits.
This Week's Music Picks
What a disaster yesterday was. After prominently featuring the Cloud Cult show at Knitting Factory last week, it ends up the show was never actually happening. If you bought tickets, contact Knitting Factory and/or Ticketweb and get your money back. The good news: we wouldn't have been able to talk about Cloud Cult on Gothamist otherwise, so hopefully you discovered a great new band (still haven't listened?).
SXSW Preview: Ready for the Rock
For those of you not going, or for those who haven't left yet, check out the SXSW player which streams all of the bands playing this year.
Coolfer's Holiday Party Season Music Picks
'Tis the season for corporate holiday parties, which could really get in the way of the great music we have in the coming week.
Sell Outs
This is where Gothamist tells you what tickets to buy...because not every band gives it away for free on a flatbed truck (yes, we've somehow managed to make the free U2 show sound dirty.) So, before the tickets sell out and you are left bargaining on Craigslist, we are here to tell you what to buy...
Take Us To The River
Gothamist headed over to Pier 54 last week to check out the Guided By Voices / Ambulance LTD show. By the time we got backstage, filled up our solo cups with Brooklyn Lager and made our way on to a stone wall to enjoy the show from...Ambulance had already ended their set. What can we say, summertime makes us slow. However we did get to see Guided By Voices who's frontman, Bob Pollard, we adore and would like to go out drinking with sometime.

Ambulance LTD in...
different that it's not falling under the indie rock category. They have been known to pack houses, start sets with instrumentals and have surely dazzled even the most disaffected looking hipster with their slightly obscure-lyrics and melodic tunes. There's a spectrum here in the music world, and they are spanning it and breaking beyond any boundaries that were previously set. The guys were even kind enough to let us ask them some questions this week...let's hear it for brevity!
