On October 13th, Amanda Palmer headed to Zuccotti Park to play one of her "ninja gigs" for the Occupy Wall Street protesters. She was joined by a ukelele, Sxip Shirey, her fans, and our cameras. Below are three of the six songs she performed, closing out with John Lennon's "Working Class Hero." Enjoy!
Gothamist House Presents: Amanda Palmer At Occupy Wall Street
Photos: Amanda Palmer Performs For The Occupy Wall Street Protesters
When we found out that Amanda Palmer (of Dresden Dolls and Evelyn Evelyn fame) was going to do one of her "ninja gigs" at Occupy Wall Street yesterday, we grabbed the camera crew and headed to Zuccotti Park. We'll have video of the full performance shortly (some audience footage below), but in the meantime, check out some photos, and here's what Amanda told us about the experience:
Where To Go On Record Store Day, According To These People We Asked
Tomorrow is Record Store Day, when vinyl addicts nationwide flock to their local dealers... but there's even something for the neophytes. There will be special albums (like this Beastie Boys 7" and a just announced limited edition 12" single from Radiohead) and events in store at plenty of shops around town tomorrow (check out participating stores here), and we asked a handful of music types for some direction. Let them guide you, with their picks for best record shop in the city:
Recap: Our Late Night Drinks With Amanda Palmer & Co.
Last week Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley's (somewhat controversial) project Evelyn/Evelyn took over the Lucille Lortel Theatre on Christopher Street for five consecutive nights, and at the end of it all we hosted a little party for them at Satellite Lounge in Williamsburg. This took place Saturday night, just around the Witching hour, and here are some photos from the evening—but be warned (or enticed), they include stripping for strangers and John Cameron Mitchell molesting a doll!

We'll be putting all the contest details in there, to be delivered directly to your inbox sometime overnight.
Courtney Slams Palmer For Daughter's "Vocal Debut"
When Amanda Palmer first started getting the PR wheels in motion for her new project, titled Evelyn/Evelyn, there were a few bumps in the road. First, not very happy with the conjoined twins fictional backstory, some disabilities groups got riled up. But really their outcries were nothing compared to the wrath of Courtney Love, who let's not forget, is armed with Twitter.
Video: Amanda Palmer Sings At New York
The lovely and talented Miss Amanda Palmer emailed us this morning with a video of her lip-dubbing (or as she calls it: a "karaoke verité" of) Tegan and Sara's song "Hell," filmed all over Union Square and parts of Brooklyn. She actually seems to have managed to frighten some tough-skinned New Yorkers! And are those gutter punks or NYU students she's with at the 2:46 mark?
Amanda Palmer, Musician, Dresden Dolls
Amanda Palmer coined the term and genre "Brechtian punk cabaret" for her band The Dresden Dolls so that critics wouldn't describe them as Goth. After two albums with the Dolls and a live show that has earned a reputation for doubling as a circus act, she is just beginning her first tour on her own. Her upcoming solo album sports the Twin Peaks-inspired title "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" and will be released in September alongside a book with same title that is a collaboration between Palmer and graphic novelist Neil Gaiman. Tonight Amanda brings her unique brand of theatricality into town with a show at Spiegelworld. She talked to Gothamist last week about blogging, opening herself up to new collaborations, and what Britney Spears's next tour should look like.
