THEATER: Lisa Kron’s solo play 2.5 Minute Ride, which won an OBIE when it premiered at the Public Theater in 1999, is currently being revived with Nicole Golden as the autobiographical “Lisa.” The play concerns Lisa's attempts to make a documentary about the life of her father, a German Jew who survived the Holocaust but lost his parents at Auschwitz. 2.5 Minute Ride finds him, in his later years, a blind diabetic with a heart condition and a passion for roller coasters. Allison Taylor deems it as comical as it is intense; a “patchwork of anecdotes about Kron's family, including memories of her Midwestern mother; an annual trip with her embarrassing relatives to the Cedar Point amusement park; and her brother's Orthodox wedding… genuinely poignant and simultaneously funny.” - John Del Signore

THEATER: According to industry rag Variety, playwright Kristine Thatcher “has been deservedly attracting international attention. [Her] latest, Among Friends, is a whimsical and provocative deconstruction of hetero male bonding." The story goes like this: “Three old friends gather as often as possible to play poker. Matt is a struggling Sears appliance salesman; Will, a public school teacher; and Dan, a real-estate developer and award-winning humanitarian. But when Will discovers the lionized Dan cheating at cards, he decides to explore exactly how deeply the rot goes.” - John Del Signore

The NYPD's moves are the biggest news of the day. It's not just upping the NYPD's ranks by 800 - Police Commssioner Ray Kelly announced that hundreds of surveillance cameras will be installed in order to better observe (and deter) possible criminal and terrorist movements. Oh, and there will be license plate readers and vehicle barriers downtown as well if the NYPD has its way - the city wants federal money to build a "ring of steel" similar to the one London has (topic to discuss: The ring is neither steel nor exactly ringlike) and used in its post-underground bombing efforts. Naturally, the NYCLU is chomping at the bit, with its associate legal director Chris Dunn telling the Daily News, "Commissioner Kelly may be ready to launch us all into a surveillance society, but we believe cameras are not a cure-all for crime and terrorism. It is far from clear that cameras deter crime." Yeah, but the NYPD probably thinks, "Why not ask the government for $81.5 million?" and, as the Daily News point out that there's no "comprehensive system to monitor the Financial District," we can imagine that private businesses have been lobbying the city to up security down there.

The tabloids report that the main suspect in the Flickred-subway-perv-incident might have a history of public lewdness. In 1994, Dan Hoyt, raw food restaurateur, was arrested for public lewdness "after he unzipped and flashed a victim" at the 8th Street N station. Yesterday, the police were searching for Hoyt, who did not come in to discuss the matter as promised. Since Thao Nguyen's picture made the Internet and the cover of the Daily News, five other women have accused Hoyt (or a man who looks A LOT like Hoyt) of similar acts.

Hoping to get rid of some of the Bernard Kerik stink, Rudy Giuliani was on the Tonight Show last night. We didn't catch the whole segment (Gothamist is a sucker for Chappelle's Show repeats we've seen 41 times already!), but he vaguely said he'd be into running for office again. But, as noted in today's Observer article, Rudy has been making a pretty penny as a civilian, like making $80,000 during a tsunami benefit - when other celebrities donated their time. Gothamist thinks we can expect to see Rudy's combover-less head in the news A LOT, because he will be milking his status as 9/11 elder statesman and he'll be paying some firms to poll the United States to find out his chances as a viable Presidential candiate in 2008, but in the end, Rudy might just stick to being a highly paid speaker and consultant.

We'll have a full list of April and May shows coming up soon, there are A LOT to cover. We find it somehow comforting that we're already buying tickets for shows in the springtime ... we're ready to thaw! Moving on, so as not to repeat ourselves here is last month's sell outs list which has tickets that are still on sale for upcoming shows. And as for the below list we have starred the shows that have a high risk factor of Hilary Duff being in attendance, consider this a public service.

tien went to Eileen's Special Cheesecake for some very special cheesecake.
