Did You Leave An Alligator On The Long Island Expressway?

An alligator found on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 68 on Monday morning is now in the custody of the SPCA, but the questions are just beginning! The SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the alligator's origins—namely because keeping an alligator is illegal. SPCA head Roy Gross said, "This is not something that will be tolerated in Suffolk County and if you have something like this, you're not only endangering yourself or your family but you're endangering the public." more ›

Owner Thought Pet Gator Was Just A Big Lizard

Alpine Wine & Liquor owner Nancy Corcione and her employees had no idea that their 3-foot-long alligator, Nancy, was actually an alligator, but rather thought it was a large monitor lizard. A lizard that ate 45 goldfish a day out of your hands and had to live in a small pool. "I didn't think it was illegal. We had no clue," Corcione told the Daily News. more ›

CC Sabathia Celebrates B-Day With Teammates, Alligator

CC Sabathia's 30th birthday isn't until Wednesday, but that's a game day, so he held an early celebration at the 40/40 Club last night. The Daily News reports that Yankees great Reggie Jackson greeted him while his fellow pitchers Andy Pettitte, Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and A.J. "I like punching stuff" Burnett made it, as did Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano, Mark Teixeira, Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada. (Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Spike Lee were also in attendance.) Also: "While a 3-foot alligator in a tank drew plenty of attention, A-Rod and his hot date, Cameron Diaz, were a bigger attraction. A-Rod entered and left the party alone, but sources confirmed he was inside with Diaz." So, was the alligator more of an attraction than CC? more ›

Long Island Bass Fisherman Reels in Alligator

Long Island Bass Fisherman Reels in Alligator

Newsday reports that the "elusive alligator" that has been seen in Hewlett creek for weeks was caught by Ron Settino, a 63-year-old bass fisherman. He said, "I've been hunting this guy for a while now. Considering the fact that he doesn't belong here, I really wanted to get him out." Apparently the 33-inch (but very dangerous) alligator bit an artificial lure, and another fisherman helped pick it up. Settino added, "The alligator was good. He really cooperated big time." The Department of Environmental Conservation, which had been trying to catch the reptile for weeks, picked up the alligator and it will be taken to an animal sanctuary. It's believed that the alligator was an illegal pet that escaped or was released. more ›
