- Mets 8, Yankees 3: The Mets woke up from their four-game slump in the first inning during yesterday's game at Yankee Stadium, scoring two runs in the first frame. It got better for the Mets in the 4th when they scored 5 runs. Randy Johnson allowed 8 runs in a game for the first time since 2003 and continued his 1st inning struggles. Steve Trachsel pitched 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and left the game with tightness in his groin, something that was bothering him previously, but shouldn't result in any missed action. The eight runs scored by the Mets equals their run production during their losing streak. The two teams face off tonight at 8:05 in the rubber game with Alay Soler facing Jaret Wright.

- Red Sox 9, Mets 4: The Mets had their chances against Jon Lester, loading the bases twice, but the rookie pitcher got out of the jams and the Red Sox won their 10th straight game. Alay Soler had his worst outing of the season, aided by a Lastings Milledge misplay of a fly ball into a two-run double in the fourth inning. The biggest scare for the Mets wasn't Big Papi or Manny Ramirez, but Jose Reyes bouncing off Jason Varitek's leg in the 5th inning. Luckily for the Mets, Reyes escaped without major injury. Tonight, Pedro Martinez returns to the mound in his first game against his former team.

- Orioles 6, Mets 3: For the Mets, their 8-game winning streak had to end sometime, and that sometime was last night against the Orioles in a rematch of the 1969 World Series. Alay Soler struggled at the start of the game, but it he pitched well enough to give the Mets a chance for their 9th straight victory. Aaron Heilman blew the save and the Mets chances at victory in the 7th inning when he allowed 4 runs.

-Mamaroneck's Winged Foot golf course proved challenging to the US Open field on Thursday, with only Colin Montgomerie shooting under par. Tiger Woods finished at a six-over-par 76. With everyone from from ESPN to Sports Illustrated billing this as a battle between Woods and Phil Mickelson, fans will have to wait for that duel to emerge, if it does.With such a tough course, the tournament should be wide open throughout.

-Mets 5 D’Backs 0: Alay Soler had his finest outing as a Met, going the distance while only allowing two hits three walks as New York beat Arizona for the third-consecutive game. Carlos Beltran kept up his hot hitting with a RBI double to get the Mets on the board. Endy Chavez had two hits while Lastings Milledge has a hit and a stolen base.

-Mets 4 Dodgers 1: Alay Soler pitched seven innings of one run ball to get his first career victory after three starts. Jose Reyes started the game off with a home run and Carlos Delgado added his own two-run homer. It's nice to see the Mets game decided by more than one run.

- Yankees 11, Tigers 6: The Yankees exploded for 5 runs in the 11th inning against the Tigers in Detroit last night. Jason Giambi got it started with a solo home run before the rest of the team got in on the action. Mariano Rivera was stellar in relief, picking up the win after pitching three innings of 1-hit ball.

Red Bull New York lost to FC Dallas, 2-1. While the loss was only the 2nd loss of the season for the Red Bulls, they only have one win. The rest of their games all ended in a tie.

The Mets won a 9-8, 16-inning thriller over the Phillies. The official length of the game was 5 hours 22 minutes. The game ended on a home run by Carlos Beltran. Mets fans should rejoice tomorrow as there's no more Lima Time. It will mark the debut of Alay Soler, the team's 9th starting pitcher this season - the team used 8 all of last season.

After much talk, the Mets finally got together with the Orioles and made a deal yesterday, sending Kris Benson to Baltimore for Jorge Julio and John Maine. Benson, who just completed the first year of a three-year $22.5 million contract finished 10-8 with a 4.13 ERA last season, his first winning season since 2002. With the hard-throwing Julio, the Mets now have even more back-end bullpen help for Billy Wagner. Julio, Baltimore's former closer, was 3-5 with a 5.90 ERA in 67 games last year and will setup Wagner with Duaner Sanchez who the Mets acquired earlier in the Jae Seo trade.
