Courtney McLean, Playwright, "Super Glossy!"
Twenty-nine-year-old playwright and actress Courtney McLean has done her share of day jobs: as a former wedding and party DJ, she DJed an afterparty for N'Sync at the San Diego Sports Arena, and her brushes with celebrity include discussing bikini waxes with Jessica Biel. After studying theater at UC San Diego, the California native headed to New York five years ago, and currently waitresses at Penelope, among other gigs. But her true love is theater, especially alternative theater, where last year she performed her first solo show "Normal-C," which you can catch highlights of on YouTube.

Anya Garrett may describe herself as “a 23-year-old girl who doesn’t know what she’s doing with her life yet,” but that hasn’t stopped her from making her living taking photos, doing web design, and generally immersing herself in the local comedy scene. After getting her B.F.A in Film/Television/Radio from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she struck out on her own, with a little help from people like David Wain, who she befriended snapping photos at his comedy shows, now Garrett can be found performing any number of tasks, from film production to directing sketch comedy, and acting, though she’s at her best snapping her way through New York City with her digital camera and eye for the zany. The “self-taught web nerd” has designed sites such as Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale’s Invitethemup.com and JulieandJackie.com, and has appeared on Stella as a cashier and in short films and onstage skits, harkening back to her acting days. Throughout her work, she shows a playfulness and creative zeal, such as in her cradle project, humorous self-portraits, or backstage antics. Whatever she's capturing, Garrett makes you wish you were there, laughing right along with her.
Jeff Newelt, a/k/a JahFurry, Publicist, Performer, Connector
writer and performer, popping up on stages at parties and bars across town to rattle off his unique musical blend into the mic. Whether reporting on Comic-Con, waxing lyrical about Alan Moore, performing with Kochie Banton, auditionining for Gizmodo's theme song competition, or throwing wild parties, he puts 100% of himself into the task at hand, and has a wonderful time doing so.
Jacob Thomas, Artist
29-year-old artist Jacob Thomas has been putting pen to paper since he was a child, planting the seeds for what would become a full-time career. Hailing from Maryland, he did a four-year stint in the Coast Guard, where his creative talents didn't go unnoticed. He was asked to paint interiors of ships and design logos and other artwork for them, which in turn helped spur his own creative impulses. After several years in Pittsburgh, he moved to New York and developed his colorful, modern portraits which have since attracted the attention of major media companies.
Jennifer Shahade, Author, Chess Bitch, U.S. Women's Chess Champion 2002, 2004
(Siles Press), which scored a blurb from Yoko Ono and set off debate within the chess world about the need for gender segregation. In the book, which features Shahade clad in a pink wig, scarf, and gloves on the cover, she examines high-profile female chess players from countries as farflung as Zambia, Russia, and China, examining the ways various governments support and nurture budding champions and how chess is or isn't valued, both financially and otherwise. She shares her own experiences studying with the likes of Garry Kasparov, and ultimately argues in favor of more women playing more chess, whether it's in all-female tournaments or mixed ones.

Adira Amram, Performer, American Idol
"Can you feel me? Can you motherfuckin' feel me?" Adira Amram belts out on her song "Wanna Make Out," which she sings while dressed in leotards, a Betsey Johnson push-up bra and suit jacket, or other attention-getting garb while pounding away on a keyboard or piano. Amram, the daughter of composer David Amram, started out as an actress but has taken to performing her hilarious “keyboard fantasy” songs at local comedy gigs. The 25-year-old performer is at The PIT Fridays in October with her latest work, Adira Amram Is An American Idol (tagline: “Let Her Spangle Your Banner”), which is fitting for a woman with a former President’s photo on the cover of her CD, Me and Bill (North Street Records).
