ESPN Fires Steve Phillips After "Tubby Temptress" Debacle

Steve Phillips, the former Mets general manager, has been fired from his role as a baseball analyst at ESPN, after his relationship with a 22-year-old production assistant was revealed last week. While ESPN's statement simply said, "Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN. His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways," a source confirmed to the Post that he was "canned."

"Tubby Temptress" Reached Settlement With Phillips

The affair between former Mets GM Steve Phillips and ESPN production assistant Brooke Hundley may have been out-of-control, what with Hundley allegedly harassing Phillip's family in person and online, and Hundley filing a restraining order against Phillips, but the two parties were able to agree to an out of court settlement. The Post reports, "It is not known what, if any deal, Hundley cut with Phillips to settle their respective claims."

Lover Used Craigslist To Torture Steve Phillips' Wife

The 22-year-old ESPN production assistant whose affair with ESPN analyst and former Mets GM Steve Phillips was revealed yesterday, was apparently very resourceful in trying to harass Phillips' wife. Brooke Hundley (dubbed a "tubby temptress" by the Post, which also offers "video geek to superfreak") placed an ad on Craigslist to hire someone to call Marni Phillips and break the news of the affair. Hundley's script for the caller: " As you can probably tell Steve hasn't been himself lately [pause and act like this is really hard for you to tell her]... It's because he's cheating on you with a young woman at our work."

Former Mets GM In "Fatal Attraction" Re-make With "Tubby Temptress"

As if signing Mo Vaughn wasn't terrible enough, the Post is reporting today that ESPN baseball analyst and former NY Mets General Manager Steve Phillips was ensnared in a messy affair with a 22-year-old production assistant at ESPN, that ended with some not-too-pleasant hijinks. For instance, the assistant crashed her car into a stone column outside the Phillips's Wilton, Conn. home, after leaving a letter there describing intimacies of the affair (including squirmy details about birth marks in nether-regions).

Madoff's Mistress's Husband Speaks!

Now we can all stop wondering what the husband of Sheryl Weinstein, the woman wrote a book about her alleged affair with Bernard Madoff, thinks. While his wife has been titillating/grossing people out with details (his mini-Madoff was really mini; he was a good kisser), Ron Weinstein isn't thrilled but points out to The Daily Beast, "Half the [book] profits are mine." He says that he did try to talk his wife out of writing the book and says about their future, "I have a commitment and I’m not going to leave her hanging out there. I’ll wait a few months, let my emotions calm down and then I’ll see if I can forgive. Having an affair is not the end of the world, but writing a book and telling everybody about it is unacceptable.... Affairs are commonplace and shouldn’t be such a big deal. However, having an affair with the person who is the biggest crook in the world and stole all my assets is another issue entirely.” That's right—Sheryl Weinstein invested all her family's money with Madoff so they are wiped out.

Madoff's CFO "Can Pull The Curtain Back On A Fraud"

Now that Bernard Madoff's purported CFO Frank DiPascali has pleaded guilty to charges related to the $65 billion Ponzi scheme, speculation has begun about what he might be able to tell the feds. DiPascali's lawyer Marc Mukasey said in court that his client could be a cooperator "of a historic nature, somebody who can pull the curtain back on a fraud and answer a lot of questions"—the ones that "the whole world wants to be answered." The NY Times said that the feds have been look at some Madoff investors who are suspected of knowing they were participating in a Ponzi scheme. In other Madoff news, there's a tell-all book coming from a Madoff victim—and former extramarital fling! Bloomberg News reports that Sheryl Weinstein, an accountant whose family lost their savings, says she met Madoff 21 years ago when she was CFO at the Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America Inc, "I now view that day as perhaps the unluckiest day of my life because of the many events set into motion that would eventually have the most profound and devastating effect on me, my husband, my child, my parents, my in-laws and all of those who depended on us."

Rick Pitino Admits To Paying For Mistress's Abortion

Former Knicks coach and current head coach of Big East powerhouse Louisville Rick Pitino is mired in an extortion scandal where it has come out that he had an affair inside a Kentucky restaurant and then paid for the woman to have an abortion. Karen Cunagin Sypher was indicted back in April of attempting to extort Pitino for $10 million. She had since responded to the charges with her own claims that the coach had raped her inside a restaurant and at a second location in 2003. Now the Louisville Courier-Journal obtained police interviews where Pitino admits to having sex with her at the restaurant after its employees had left; an assistant coach on-hand also told police that he heard "only the sounds of two people that seemed to be enjoying themselves during a sexual encounter." The Long Island native Pitino, a married father of five and Catholic who has a priest travel around with his team, then admitted to paying $3,000 for Sypher to have an abortion because she did not have health insurance, an anecdote unlikely to be brought up by the president in his current town hall meetings. Sypher pleaded not guilty to the extortion charges and prepares to go for trial. Sources say Pitino has no plans to take a leave of absence from Louisville.

Lov Gov Sanford Loved In NYC, Hamptons

In an interview with the Associated Press, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was "teary-eyed" when he "admitted he met with his mistress in the Hamptons and New York City, describing...the details of encounters that he said stretch back to 2001." In fact, Sanford gets all The Bridges of Madison County about it, "I was frightened and I was scared, and I knew the consequences. This was a whole lot more than a simple affair. This was a love story. A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day." While he met mistress Maria Belen Chapur in Uruguay in 2001, they met again in 2004 at a NYC cafe—while he was in town for the 2004 Republican Convention—"It was like catching up with a great, old friend. I remember there was an older couple sitting to our right, and I remember them watching us, in the way that we interacted. They could see a spark." Sanford didn't speculate about his 20-year marriage but did say, "I will be able to die knowing that I had met my soul mate."

Bad News, Billy Joel

It's probably never good to wake up and see your significantly younger wife's face in the Daily News in an article sprinkled with your very own song titles like "Movin' Out" and "It's a Matter of Trust." Allegedly the 27-year-old Katie Lee Joel has been cheating on the 59-year-old Billy Joel with fashion designer Yigal Azrouel. A source told the paper the two have been together for a while, and “Katie often stays at their apartment in NYC alone, while Billy likes to live in their Long Island home. They’re rarely together. And Katie likes it like that. She wants her freedom.” The crooner has heard of the designer, whom he at first assumed was gay, and the relationship rightfully has him furious. The source adds that Azrouel has “slept with several high-profile female fashion editors. It’s understandable that everyone would think he’s gay, as he’s a man of fashion in NYC, but he isn’t." Most recently, Katie (sans wedding ring) and Yigal were spotted together at a Museum of Natural History gala.

2008_11_mccreasdy.jpgTwo weeks out of prison with a career comeback getting underway, what better time for a television interview from country singer Mindy McCready, the former mistress of pitcher Roger Clemens? McCready will be on Inside Edition tonight discussing her life in the cockpit alongside "The Rocket," telling the tabloid that their affair was conducted very out in the open, vacationing together throughout. She also says that she left Clemens because "I wanted him to do right by me." That seems to contradict a previous interview with the Daily News where McCready said she never intended to marry him and he should have "done right by his family." Clemens, who has had his reputation severely tarnished by the affair that broke following his embarrassing role in the steroid scandal, is defended by McCready as "one of the most wonderful men I've ever known…He treated me like a princess." She also notes their relationship was not sexual for years--possibly because they met when she was 15.

As reported last week, a woman is suing the Diocese of Brooklyn for $25 million because a Roman Catholic priest at Our Lady of the Snows church allegedly seduced her from the confession booth. The accused priest, Reverend Elvis Elano, has yet to speak publicly, but yesterday parishioners at his former church in Astoria opened up to the Post. And one 80-year-old female churchgoer can probably count on being summoned to testify in Elano's defense: "I don't care whether he's a priest or not, when a woman opens her legs, a man is not going to say no. I don't believe it, but if he did it, more power to him."

Reverend Elvis Elano, a priest formerly posted at Our Lady of the Snows in the Queens, is having a very trying day. After his secret seven-month affair with parishioner Judith Rodrigues-Lytwyn ended earlier this month, his ex has gone public with a lawsuit in Brooklyn Supreme Court, and The Smoking Gun has obtained a cachet of embarrassing photos, emails and documents, like the receipt for his online Viagra purchase.

Rielle Hunter came out yesterday and said that she will not make her former lover John Edwards take a paternity test "now or in the future." Edwards has denied being father, saying that his relationship with Ms. Hunter ended long before the pregnancy that resulted in Ms. Hunter’s giving birth on February 27. Rielle Hunter did not indicate a father on Frances Quinn Hunter's birth certificate.

After confirming that he had an affair with a former NYC party girl-turned-filmmaker --but denying he fathered her baby-- former Senator, vice-presidential candidate, and presidential contender John Edwards spoke to both ABC News and CBS News about the situation. And, on the other side, a source described mistress Rielle Hunter as "an idiot, a fool, a moron, a faux guru, but not mean-spirited."

After speculation stirred up by the National Enquirer and debate about whether mainstream media should cover it, John Edwards has admitted to having an affair with filmmaker Rielle Hunter. Nightline will broadcast an interview tonight, where Edwards will also deny being the father of Hunter's daughter (forget a paternity test--apparently the baby's birthdate tells him it's not his; a former campaign staffer says he's the daddy). Edwards apparently “made a point of telling [Bob] Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter.” But ABC News leads its web article with how the one-time presidential candidate "repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair." Gawker points out this announcement comes as it was reported ABC News investigative reporter Brian Ross was working on the story.

The married NJ asphalt company executive admitted to the NY Post that he did have an extramarital tryst with Spitzer hooker Ashley Dupre earlier this week. Thomas "TJ" Earle said, via a lawyer, "I'm very ashamed."

Cynthia Rodriguez finally broke her silence and decided to present her case to gossip columnist Cindy Adams, who writes, " Cynthia Rodriguez loves her man. Cynthia Rodriguez has no malice...Ask again, you mean she's saying she really still loves her womanizing husband and what comes back is, Cynthia Rodriguez is 'not out to mutilate him.'"

The cruel and revelatory divorce proceedings between Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook ended at 6 a.m. this morning, with the sides announcing a settlement. Brinkley's lawyer Robert Cohen said in the courtroom, "It is my pleasure to report to the court that with much hard work ... we reached an agreement."

2008_07_brinkcook.jpgAfter yesterday's scathing testimony from a court-appointed psychiatrist, Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook may be working to settle the custody portion of their divorce battle in private. The model told reporters that she's "wanted to settle for two years."

Alex Rodriguez's ex-trainer tells the Post that the superstar athlete is totally besotted--or something else--by Madonna, "Alex, God bless him, is lost...I think he got pulled in by the dark side, if you can say that nicely. He's totally brainwashed."

The contentious divorce between All-American model Christie Brinkley and her estranged husband Peter Cook keeps revealing more and more salacious details. The couple separated when Brinkley found out Cook was having an affair with an 18-year-old employee at his architecture firm.

After his DWI arrest led to admitting an affair and a 3-year-old love child in Virginia, Representative Vito Fossella returned to Staten Island to rampant speculation of his imminent resignation.

Country singer Mindy McCready tearfully admitted to the Daily News that their story about her alleged 10-year affair with pitcher Roger Clemens was true. She said, "I cannot refute anything in the story."

Could this year get any worse for Debbie Clemens? Not only has the wife of embattled pitching ace Roger Clemens been accused of taking HGH with her husband, now sources says she knew about her husband's alleged 10-year affair with country star Mindy McCready, who was 15 (that's Miley Cyrus's age!) when it started!

The Saga of Love Gov, Part 2 continues with Governor Paterson's admission he may have used a campaign credit card to pay for a hotel room, but charged it as "constituent services." Say it all together now: "That's some 'constituent services'!"

Governor David Paterson hoped his and his wife's admission that they had extramarital affairs meant that everyone could move on. Other politicians certainly want to move on and constituents generally don't think it's a big deal (Hookergate fatigue?), but now that the tabloids have license to run with it, it means details (and long cover headlines) galore!

During his first full day as Governor, David Paterson and his wife Michelle held a press conference discussing their infidelities, with Paterson explaining, "I didn't want it hanging over my head. I didn't want to be compromised." Honest? Yes. Bizarre? that too!

Just hours after becoming the 55th Governor of NY State, David Paterson and his wife Michelle have admitted to both have extramarital affairs during a rough patch in their marriage. Their joint interview appears in the Daily News, in an article written by columnist Juan Gonzalez.

It appears that Judith Nathan, the current Mrs. Giuliani, may have been enjoying taxpayer-funded car service provided by the police while her affair with former Mayor Giuliani was unknown. Giuliani's admitted that he gave his girlfriend a security detail once their relationship became public because of possible threats against her, but it appears that Nathan was enjoying New York's Finest as a taxi service months before anyone even knew the two were involved with each...
