Cordell Lochin is a bit of an enigma. The well-connected scenester, subject of an indulgent profile in the Observer last spring, presented himself as a partner in the obnoxiously affected nightspots La Esquina and The Box. Now the other entitled owners are distancing themselves from Lochin and the enigma will soon be wrapped inside a prison cell; Guest of a Guest has news that Lochin’s gotten sent up on a 3-year bid for involvement in......

You know it's the fall movie season because it's all about actors and their performances. In the noir-lite period film, Hollywoodland, Oscar-winner Adrien Brody plays a LA two-bit gumshoe hired to investigate the mysterious death of actor George Reeves. What makes this movie worth a viewing is the strong acting by the whole cast. Ben Affleck as Reeves, a TV actor who always wanted to be more than his Superman persona, gives a performance that......

Gothamist was a bit underwhelmed by this year's Golden Globe nominees, and we were thinking of not liveblogging. But, gosh darn it as we watched the E! preshow and saw the starlets sparkle their way down the red carpet, we realize it was hopeless, so here we are. Let it be known that: - Keira Knightley looks gorgeous in her white Valentino - and there's something surprisingly youthful about the dress, even though there's that......

Last night, the premiere of King Kong was held in midtown, but the PR folks also dragged out a huge King Kong model to place in Times Square, probably getting soggy from the snow (we're sure he smelled like a real ape after that). Gothamist has been watching some King Kong coverage lately since we can't escape it, and we have two observations: (1) Damn, did Peter Jackson lose a lot of weight; and......

The first trailer for Peter Jackson’s King Kong finally hit the internet, featuring Adrien Brody, a digital King Kong and Naomi Watts as his love interest, a few Jurassic Park leftovers, and Jack Black (who is so hard to take seriously). We’re quite optimistic LOTR’s Jackson can pull off an updated version of Hollywood classic and so far, Jackson insists he's refrained from reinventing the storyline: “Our story follows the same structure. It starts in......

Oh, Paul Giamatti... Hollywood may like good acting, but Oscars loves pretty faces better. Gothamist thought that when you didn't get nominated for your role as Pig Vomit in Private Parts, it was because of the whole movie-about-Howard-Stern thing. When you didn't get nominated for American Splendor, we guessed "Maybe Oscar voters don't get indie cartoons." But, now, as your peers in the Actors' Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have......

So The Village was number one at the box office this weekend (box office nerd fact: on the same weekend two years ago, Signs made $60 million). What Gothamist took most comfort in were all the stories or references to "village idiot," from Michael Agger's examination of M. Night Shyamalan's directing style on Slate (Agger's verdict: M. Night ain't all that) to Adrien Brody's actual character in the film, because the Village Idiot (the bar)......

The Post tallies up the city's most eligible bachelors (and, yes, the usual suspects are there, like Derek Jeter, Rocco DiSpirito and Adrien Brody as well as some not so usual, like Billy Crudup – who knew the dump the soon to be mother of my child type which is hot to Page Six and homophobe Jeremy Shockey; Gothamist, though, is thrilled with the inclusion of chef Marcus Samuelsson, sigh). The Post also adds what......

Adrien Brody, Oscar-winning boy from Queens made good, got into a car accident Saturday at Orchard Street and Delancey. According to the Post, he tried to switch lanes quickly, crashing his rented Chevy Tahoe into a Nissan Altima. The other car's owner, Heidi Hong, said that Brody was annoyed and asked her, "Didn't you see me? Why didn't you make room for me?" Brody then tried to get Hong to exchange information, but Hong called......

While Gawker will most likely have more intense coverage, check out pictures of arrivals to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Party of the Year" - the Costume Institute gala - at WireImage, like these of Best Acting Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Adrien Brody. Got love synergistic publicists. The Times on Goddess, the theme of the Party of the Year. The article also has a picture of Anna Wintour in a Dior gown. Mainly she......

Adrien Brody will be hosting Saturday Night Live on May 10th. Gothamist guesses that there were be some bit about him kissing...he'll kiss Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, then the "funny" comes in when he kisses the SNL dudes, like Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, and Chris Kattan, maybe even Lorne. Gothamist won't bother to find any of the latest slash fiction about Adrien Brody and [insert actor here] but we will develop......

Kudos to Jen for her recap of Oscar night. My winners: - The Hollycaust. Because the film industry can't get enough of it. It was a totally horrific event in world history. But it somehow makes Hollywood think they're relevant. I haven't seen The Pianist, but intend to, so I can't compare it to the ultimate in holocaust schlock, Schindler's List. But still, I'm a little suspicious of any film about such tragedy and horror.......

The evening is over, while Gothamist will be following up with extensive commentary about the actual Oscar telecast, here are the winners and some post-game analysis: Best Picture: Chicago - Marty Richards Not a huge surprise given the momentum Chicago's had since the Golden Globes, but there was an outside chance of a Pianist upset with The Pianist's acting, directing, and screenplay awards. But in the end, Harvey got his best picture. Best Actor in......

Adrien Brody's and Focus Features' publicists are working overtime to make sure Adrien Brody is a contender in the Oscar race. An article in the Post yesterday, going to his alma mater, Fiorella H. LaGuardia High School last week to inspire the kids. The Post article mentionsis rather famous mother, photographer Sylvia Plachy, who photographed not only her son while in Summer of Sam gear for a recent book but Jake's aunt as well.......
