Is This New Mad Men Poster Trying To Tell Us Something?

The countdown is on to the long-awaited return of Mad Men, which will start up again with a fifth season on March 25th (the premiere will basically be a two hour movie). We've seen their first promotional campaign already (the falling man image), and now they've released round two, which is very different. The show's creator, Matthew Weiner, discussed the new poster—which features Don Draper staring into a Manhattan storefront featuring a nude mannequin—telling the NY Times: more ›

Anti-Cheese Group Unveils "Fat" New Ad Campaign

Anti-Cheese Group Unveils "Fat" New Ad Campaign

To paraphrase Rob Lowe's character from Parks And Recreation, cheese is LITERALLY the greatest thing on Earth. We like it with our alcohol and with our breast milk—and we're LITERALLY willing to steal to get it. Which makes a new anti-cheese ad campaign, which connects cheese with obesity and fatty thighs, all the more distressing to us. more ›

Video: Anti-Obesity Ads Warn Young Fatties Won't Ever Have Fun

Health professionals and parents are up in arms today over a new anti-obesity ad campaign in Georgia, featuring stark black-and-white photos of overweight children with lines like “Some diseases aren’t just for adults anymore,” and “Being fat takes the fun out of being a kid.” Is it a useful tactic, or just shameful? And when will Bloomberg bring it to New York? more ›

Boy Scouts Are Looking For Future Hipsters And/Or Beardos

The Boy Scouts have a new, strangely mesmerizing ad campaign—with the emphasis decidedly on strange. The manly new campaign features young boys with long scraggily beards and the inviting motto, "Be One With The Wild." We definiely think Ron Swanson would approve. more ›

Sexist Milk/PMS Campaign Comes To An Abrupt End

Remember that ad campaign called "Everything I Do Is Wrong?" The one that promised exasperated men that they could soothe their PMS-ing banshee women with milk? The one that got a whole lot of people really pissed off? Don't worry about it, because now it's shutting down early. more ›

New MTA Ads Will Kill "Train of Thought," Too!

New MTA Ads Will Kill "Train of Thought," Too!

How many times have you been on the subway, shoved against some guy trying to impress his girlfriend by rambling about the complexities of Spain's public transportation system, wishing everyone would just evaporate when you look up and find yourself comforted by the words of Walt Whitman or E.B. White? Well, you'll just have to be satisfied with eavesdropping about Madrid's "sardine-ass" subways now, because the MTA says the subways aren't big enough for both the new ad campaign and the literary musings. Jane Tylus, the professor in charge of choosing the quotes, told the Times, “I am concerned this may well be the last round, if it goes up at all." more ›

Who Is Going to Miss SubTalk?

Who Is Going to Miss SubTalk?

You may have noticed that the MTA is rolling out a new ad campaign, this one aimed at reminding you that the MTA is your friend. Instead of the PSAs and customer safety warnings of SubTalk and BusTalk, the "Improving, non-stop" campaign tells riders what the MTA is doing to make their ride better. MTA spokesman Paul Fleuranges told the Times, “We don’t really do a good job of telling our customer what we’re doing, or what we’ve done, or what we are in the process of doing. We want to use a consistent message instead of the hodgepodge you see up there now." But what about reminding people not to litter? more ›

"I Love My Boo" Campaign Hits Subways

"I Love My Boo" Campaign Hits Subways

After being displayed only in bathrooms at gay bars over the past few years, the Gay Men's Health Crisis' "I Love My Boo" campaign is, err, coming out on the subway. The campaign, which prominently features Black and Hispanic gay couples, encourages young gay men to be proud of their sexuality and to get tested for HIV. A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study showed men of color are the least likely to be aware of their HIV status, which the GMHC attributes to public taboos against homosexuality and testing. Is New York ready for this kind of campaign? more ›

Pretzel Ad Hits NYC Streets, Promotes Eating Disorders

Pretzel Ad Hits NYC Streets, Promotes Eating Disorders

[UPDATE BELOW] A reader sent us the above photo, taken at the northeast corner of 1st and 1st. She wrote, "A timeless message from Pretzel Crisps reminding you that you will never reach any goal when it comes to your body." Many others have shared her sentiment against the campaign, and last night NYC The Blog took some video of one of the ads getting adorned with images of too-thin women, articles about eating disorders, and a new message in response to the company's declaration: "You can never be too thin." It reads: "Actually, you can." more ›

Ad Likens Disinfectant to Subway Terrorists

Ad Likens Disinfectant to Subway Terrorists

The Colombian ad company ADE is saying that Desinfex household cleaner will do to germs what bombs do to suicidal terrorists. It's that effective! According to Advertolog, this ad was released this month, meaning it was most likely designed before the Moscow bombings, but printed after. Commenters on Ads of the World seem to be on the fence as to whether the ad is even good. "Jeff" said, "I think any use of suicide bombers is rather distasteful," while AdAddicted raved, "contemporary thought ;-) Beautiful art!!" Either way, NYPD subway security might want to be on the lookout; that guy in the suit on the left looks like he's about to go postal on somebody. [Via Animal New York] more ›

Video: "Drinking Fat," Courtesy NYC Health Department

Well, the title of this video pretty much says it all. Making good on their promise to make a commercial for their vivid ad campaign discouraging sugary drink consumption, the NYC Health Department has just released this little opus. If you like Garbage Pail Kids, you'll love this: more ›

Atheist Ads Hit City Buses

Atheist Ads Hit City Buses

There's nothing like the MTA to make you question your faith! So maybe the new advertisements for Atheism on city buses are appropriate. The campaign will take over 20 Manhattan buses for about one month, and president of New York City Atheists, Ken Bronstein, says the test run could be reaching other boroughs later this year (the group's website is taking donations for the next roll out). The ads read: "You don’t have to believe in God to be a moral and ethical person." more ›

PETA Goes Further Down the Pole for New Anti-Fur Models

PETA Goes Further Down the Pole for New Anti-Fur Models

Today PETA released its newest ads in the long campaign where famous figures such as Pamela Anderson and Dennis Rodman profess that they'd rather "Go Naked" than wear fur. Who's joining those illustrious ranks? It's the strippers from Rick's Cabaret! PETA says, "Nowadays, savvy investors are looking for safe bets." Those bets probably wouldn't include investing in the establishment that the animal rights organization highlights as "the only strip joint on NASDAQ." Shares of Rick's currently sell for $2.54, a year after they went for over $25. more ›

More on MoMA's Mashed Up Masterpieces

More on MoMA's Mashed Up Masterpieces

As of Tuesday, Doug Jaeger of HappyCorp was cleverly wording his comments about his and Poster Boy's involvement in the alteration of MoMA's subway ad campaign in Brooklyn, which he developed. According to Jaeger, he met Poster Boy, who he says is more than one person, and that he and some others were in the subway system the night the ads were deconstructed. more ›

MoMA Unveils Subway Installation

Earlier this month MoMA started installing vague signs in the Atlantic/Pacific subway stop in Brooklyn, alluding to an exhibit on the way. Today they unveiled their publicity campaign, which saturates every ad space in the two connected stations (including the turnstiles). Their accompanying website explains that they've filled the station "with reproductions of over 50 works of art in the MoMA collection. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, walk through the station to see images of works by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Charles Eames, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, and many other great artists, filmmakers, and designers." This is their first large-scale campaign aimed at getting locals in to see their permanent collection, and it even comes with audio for a little tour if you're not in a rush (or stuck waiting on a train). Wonder if any Posterboy's out there will mash-up the masterpieces. more ›

Hello Health Says Good-Bye to Subway Posters

Hello Health Says Good-Bye to Subway Posters

Yesterday there was some chatter about the Hello Health subway ad campaign, mainly how its empty word bubble design (unsurprisingly) acted as a magnet for vandals! AnimalNY mentioned that the MTA was responsible for pulling the ad campaign, which launched when Hello Health opened its doors in Williamsburg. Today, however, they uncovered that there was a little bit of finger pointing going on, and it was actually "CBS Outdoor, the exclusive media managing agency for the MTA's entire system" who requested the creative be changed. more ›
