Marbury Skips Out, Future TBD

Marbury Skips Out, Future TBD

More trouble for the Knicks: Captain Stephon Marbury was missing from the morning shootaround in Phoenix, where the Knicks are set to play the Suns tonight. Marbury's apparent absence comes after coach Isiah Thomas may have told him he wouldn't be starting tonight and a Daily News article suggesting that the Knicks were thinking about a Starbury-less team in the future. Coming off a bad loss in Miami where Marbury threw the ball away in... more ›

Record Losing Season = Big Bucks for Brown

Record Losing Season = Big Bucks for Brown

When Larry Brown was fired after the Knicks' dreadful 2005-06 season, a battle began over how much of the remaining four-year, $41 million contract he would get. NBA Commissioner David Stern decided on a settlement in late October, and he hoped it would remain secret. But he didn't count on Cablevision's third-quarter filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission. In the end, the Knicks will pay Brown $18.5 million in addition to the $10 million he was paid for the season of work. more ›

"Everybody's a Boricua"

"Everybody's a Boricua"

Hundreds of thousands of revelers enjoyed the beautiful weather and celebrated during yesterday's Puerto Rican Day Parade. And this year's theme was, "Boricuas...We count, We Vote!" Though Marc Anthony was the Grand Marshal, the real attraction was his wife, Jennifer Lopez. Mayor Bloomberg, who marched with the couple, said, "In the pictures tomorrow, I will be lucky if I am noticed at all." Anthony and Lopez ultimately needed the help of Guardian Angels to keep the paparazzi off them and keep moving along the parade route. And the couple was also there to promote their upcoming film, El Cantante, but the El Cantante float broke down towards the end of the route. more ›

Do You Want Your Old Job Back?

Do You Want Your Old Job Back?

You need to really think about that Herb, because if Larry Brown pulls the disappearing act many expect (and some hope for) you will probably get the chance to be the head coach again. You deserve much better than this mess, but how could you turn down the chance to be in charge again? more ›

Enough!

Enough!

We get it Larry; none of this is your fault. It’s not your fault that you have had to use 40+ different starting lineups. It’s not your fault that there is no morale on this team. It’s not your fault that on a day when we should be enjoying a great 96-94 win, we are instead focusing again on all the off the court crap that comes with being a Knicks’ fan. more ›

The Future?

The Future?

You have to make the most of your opportunities and Nate Robinson has certainly done that. With Steve Francis on the bench and a first quarter injury to Stephon Marbury, Robinson was called on to play big minutes and he responded with 34 points in the Knicks 117-112 loss. more ›

The Lost Boys

The Lost Boys

Instead of watching the actual game, Gothamist advises Knicks’ fans to just watch Larry Brown’s press conference after it. Once again Brown ripped into to his team for a poor defensive effort, allowing Boston to shoot 57% from the field on route to a 123-98 loss that wasn’t even that close. more ›

Knicks Lose 91-75

Knicks Lose 91-75

Instead of dwelling on another pathetic loss by the Knicks Gothamist is going layout what he would like to see happen the rest of the season which thankfully lasts only 14 more games. more ›

Return to Normalcy

Return to Normalcy

When a team's effort in an 11-point loss at home is a positive, something's wrong. The Knicks came back to Earth after Friday's win against Detroit when they lost 111-100 against Miami Sunday. Despite the loss, the Knicks did not humiliate themselves, something they have done all too often this season. Gothamist didn't expect the Knicks to sprinkle magic two games in a row at the Garden. more ›

Where Did That Come From?

Where Did That Come From?

Sometimes the Knicks and the NBA makes Gothamist scratch its head. That's what happened during the Knicks' 105-103 victory Detroit at the Garden Friday. A team that could be bound for its third straight NBA Finals lost to a team that would be bound for the lottery had it not traded its pick away unprotected to the Chicago Bulls. With a loss to the lowly Bobcats in the rear-view mirror, the Knicks knocked off the league's best team. more ›

With Marbury On Bench, Knicks Win

With Marbury On Bench, Knicks Win

When in crunch-time, most teams, most coaches, would turn to their star player, but not the dysfunctional Knickerbockers. As we all know, they are not most teams. They are a team with the highest payroll in the NBA and the team with the 2nd worse record in the NBA. Surely if the Bobcats played as many games as the Knicks have, our fine New York team would actually be the worst in the NBA. Last night, however, the Knicks provided The Garden crowd with a 121-117 double-overtime victory in what had to be one of their most exciting wins of the season. Not hard, considering they only have eighteen. more ›

There Goes Another One

There Goes Another One

We all knew this would happen. Eventually, Larry Brown and Stephon Marbury were going to stop pretending they liked each other and openly feud. It took longer than we expected, but the fight is here. For his part, Marbury feels like he has played within Brown’s system and wants to return to his “Starbury” ways. Brown seemingly mocked his point guard before last night’s 108-96 loss by saying, “"I've never given a guard more freedom than Stephon Marbury in my life. I'm hopeful he'll step up and be Starbury." more ›

Still Sinking

Still Sinking

The Knicks managed to play well enough last night to keep the crowd from turning hostile. In fact, they looked like they were going to actually win a game, building a 16-point lead in the third quarter and holding a 9-point lead with five minutes left. That’s when things fell apart and the Knicks collapsed down the stretch of their 108-101 loss. more ›

Another Night of Fun at MSG

Another Night of Fun at MSG

Here’s the good news; there are only 28 games left in the Knicks’ season. New York was simply outclassed by the Nets last night, losing 94-90, but it wasn’t that close. Steve Francis, who had 16 points in his debut, hit a three at the buzzer capping of a rally by the Knicks that made the game appear a lot closer than it was. more ›

The Knicks Win!

The Knicks Win!

Break open the champagne the Knicks are back in the win column! Ok, so beating the Raptors at home is hardly something to be excited about, but that is a good indication of the depths to which this team has sunk. Wednesday’s 98-96 victory wasn’t pretty and wouldn’t have happened without a jumper by Jamal Crawford with three seconds left in the game, but it’s still a win. more ›

Depressing

Depressing

The Knicks keep finding new and more humiliating ways to lose. Tuesday night, it was an inbounds play that sunk them. Down by one with 2.2 seconds left in the game, Jalen Rose could not get the ball in play within five seconds and were whistled for a turnover that sealed their 85-82 loss. more ›

At Least it was Watchable

At Least it was Watchable

You may have missed it in the Super Bowl hype, but the Knicks actually played an entire game without giving up yesterday. They hung in until the end and almost pulled off a miracle in their 93-89 loss to the Rockets. more ›

Knicks Quit Again and Kobe Scores 40

Knicks Quit Again and Kobe Scores 40

Gothamist has a special request for Punxsutawney Phil. We’ll take our chances on the length of winter; just bring an early end to the basketball season at the Garden. Last night, it wasn’t so much Kobe, or his parade to the foul line, but another case of the Knicks quitting on their fans in a 130-97 loss. more ›

Hanging On

Hanging On

Perhaps it was because of his shoulder, but in a matchup of two of the better point guards in the league, Stephon Marbury didn’t show up. Steve Francis torched him for 36 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter while Marbury managed only 8 points and 7 assists. Eddy Curry had one of his best games as a Knick scoring 27 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. more ›

Can He Fix This?

Can He Fix This?

It didn’t look like a foul and Stephon Marbury certainly got the worst of it getting cut as a result of it, but it was called a foul and that made all the difference. Marbury was whistled for a blocking foul with 1.3 second remaining in the game and the Knicks leading by one. Brad Miller missed the first free throw, but the second went in and the game went into overtime where Sacramento prevailed 106-102. more ›

Getting the Point

Getting the Point

Let’s not get too excited by the fact that Larry Brown won his 1.000th game last night. Sure it is a nice achievement for him, but the other coaches who have reached it, Lenny Wilkens, Don Nelson and Pat Riley, all coached the Knicks and never won a championship. Instead, let’s focus on the fact that the Knicks have won six in a row, the latest a 105-94 victory over the Hawks. more ›

Working Overtime

Working Overtime

It almost got away from them last night. After building an 18-point first-half lead, the Knicks needed overtime to finally subdue the Mavericks 117-115. Stephon Marbury continued his resurgence with 28 points while Jamal Crawford added 25. The win is the fifth straight for New York and marks their longest winning streak in two years. more ›

Stephon Takes Charge

Stephon Takes Charge

The Knicks won again Sunday with Stephon Marbury leading the way. Marbury had 23 points, 15 assists and only one turnover as the Knicks beat Seattle 120-116. Once again, the Knicks shot over 50% from the field, exploiting the right matchups and getting mostly good looks at the basket. more ›

Break Up the Knicks!

Break Up the Knicks!

Don’t look now, but the Knicks are on a winning streak. Channing Frye scored 30 points in only 26 minutes to lead the Knicks to a 113-92 victory over Washington Friday night. more ›
