A roofer jumped into a vat of acid to save his co-worker who fell 40 feet through the roof into the liquid. NorthJersey.com reports that the men were working on the roof of the Swepco Tube LLC tubing company in Clifton when one fell and was fully submerged in a solution that contained 40-70% nitric acid. The worker was waist-high in acid pulling his peer out, while three other employees assisted. "It takes a lot of courage," Fire Chief Vince Colavitti said, in what strikes us as an understatement.

Bronx Bus Rider Splashes Acid On Driver
A Bx10 bus driver was rushed to the hospital last night after the last passenger on his bus threw a "caustic liquid" at his face and ran off. The driver said the two were having a friendly chat about the bus schedule and he didn't suspect a thing. Well, the new bus schedules are pretty enraging! The suspect fled down West 263rd Street and the driver was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center with minor burns to his face and chest. For all you amateur sleuths out there, the suspect was wearing a Derek Jeter jersey, which totally narrows it down.
Did the CIA Test LSD in the NYC Subway?
The author of a new book about the CIA’s hallucinogenic drug tests during the Cold War says there’s evidence the agency used NYC commuters as their experimental subjects. He found documentation of the subway tests—which allegedly occurred in 1950—while researching his nonfiction account. "The experiment was pretty shocking — shocking that the CIA and the Army would release LSD like that, among innocent unwitting folks," H.P. Albarelli told The Post.

Acidic Twist in Alleged Mob Killing
An informant says that Gambino family soldier Charles Carneglia killed John Gotti Sr.'s Howard Beach neighbor and got rid of the body by dumping him in a vat of acid. Carneglia, who has been behind bars since the feds' big sweep of the Gambinos last year, is accused of being part of a group of men who targeted Gotti neighbor John Favara, who fatally struck Gotti's bike-riding 12-year-old son Frankie in 1980. The Daily News explains that Favara "found the word Murderer scrawled on his auto and was attacked with a bat by Gotti's wife, Victoria, but failed to heed repeated warnings to move out of the area." The Post reports the feds originally thought Favara's body (in a barrel of concrete) was thrown off a Brooklyn pier, but "Carneglia's love of acid and his use of it in Favara's case came to light thanks to new information from the cooperating witness." Carneglia allegedly kept vats of acid in his basement and had asked the informant for help in moving them.

Sanchez had allegedly jabbed the knife towards the super, and a witness said he overheard Sanchez saying, "I am gonna kill him" yesterday morning. Another said,...
