Is Alex Rodriguez Tom Brady's #2 fan (after Giselle Bundchen, of course)? The Post reports, from the Boston Herald, that there's a "budding bromance" afoot in the world of top athletes. Last week, A-Rod was hoping to have dinner with the injured Patriots quarterback last during the Yankees games versus Boston: "A-Rod was running around the clubhouse asking everyone, 'Are we gonna play? Are we rained out? Are we postponed?' Every few minutes he'd come around and ask his teammates - or anyone else who was around - the same thing." Well, who wouldn't be excited to have dinner with Tom Brady? He can sing and he can dance and he can even read your mind (reference). Unfortunately for A-Rod, the Yankees game was not rained out.

Let’s face it, the minute the Jets traded for Brett Favre, today’s game became one you circled on the calendar. It was going to be a measuring stick to see exactly how good the Jets really were. Play a competitive game against the Patriots at home and you would feel that the trade was worth it. That all changed in the first quarter of last week’s Patriots game. As Tom Brady limped off the field, Jets’ fans started to see today’s matchup differently and they should. Today’s matchup has gone from a measuring stick to a must-win.

Reports that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady suffered a torn ACL suggest that he may be out for the season. Brady went down on the 16th play in the Patriots' home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday-- he screamed in pain when Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard hit his left leg. Pats receiver Randy Moss said the team is ready to embrace backup Matt Cassel, who led the team to a win, but Moss added that Brady's injury "kind of hurts to be honest with you." Next up for the Patriots: Meeting the Jets at Gang Green's home opener this coming Sunday. Remember, the Pats coach Bill Belichick was assistant coach at the Jets under Parcells; when Parcells left, he was supposed to take over as coach, but went to New England instead.

The football season is over, but news about the Giants and their Super Bowl win never gets old. Here's what's been happening since the ticker tape parade:

History will place the 2007 Giants among the most unlikely champions ever. 0-2 to start the season, down 17-3 at halftime of their third game, bad losses to Minnesota and Washington, down 14-0 off the bat in Buffalo, a comeback in Dallas, an OT winner in Green Bay and a 17-14 victory over the perfect Patriots- it simply doesn’t get any better than this for Giants fans.

After the Giants' wild underdog Super Bowl win last night, it's no surprise that New York area papers are reveling in this victory. The Daily News give its readers a special commemorative Super Bowl victory cover (inside, there's a traditional front and sports back cover - sans Giants mention). Both the News and the NY Post feature Eli Manning holding the Vince Lombardi trophy. Maybe this is their way of apologizing for ragging on him mercilessly (though with reason) for his first seasons.

11:27PM: We're enjoying the postgame coverage of the Giants' victory, with sad Tom Brady, really excited Michael Strahan (singing Eli's praises), Peyton Manning being thrilled with his brother's success (aw!) and thoughts from the 1972 Dolpins, secure with their undefeated record for another year (but the Patriots still won more games in a row!). While we've been inside, there are a number of large crowds celebrating the Giants' win all over the city - the police have been called to break some of them up!

After two weeks of hype, Super Bowl XLII is finally around the corner. The Giants have reached the ultimate game with a chance to prevent history by ruining the Patriots' quest for a perfect 19-0 season.

Mayor Bloomberg and Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston are putting it all on the line for Sunday's Super Bowl. After winning the awful bet from Green Bay, Bloomberg has a lot more riding on the line when the Giants face off against the Patriots this weekend. As is the custom when the playoffs roll around, the mayors of the teams participating decided on a friendly food wager. The stakes, or should we say steaks, are upped in this bet as the Vince Lombardy Trophy are on the line.

A Giant hooked up to a shock device, numerous wedding proposals and an American Idol audition all added to the collective fun know as “Media Day” at the Super Bowl. What else can you expect when nearly 5,000 reporters have to shake out stories from 200 or so football players and coaches.

The game is still a week away, but the verbal sparring has begun. Plaxico Burress fired the first shot this week when he said about the Giants’ wide receivers that, "We have guys that can go out and do things just as well or maybe better than some of those guys.” The Patriots have refused to take the bait with Rodney Harrison simply talking about seeing what happens on the field while Ellis Hobbs noted that Plaxico has “really long arms.”

Last week, Brett Favre was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. This week, Eli Manning graces the cover of the magazine. If you believe the S.I. cover curse/jinx, then the Giants may be in trouble. In the magazine, Peter King gives the Giants-Packers game the cover story treatment, while Dr. Z decides to pick the Giants to make up for picking against the Jets in Super Bowl III.

Is he hurt or isn’t he? That is the question after Tom Brady was spotted walking without a boot on his foot a day after being seen with one. Sources say that Brady is suffering from a mild high ankle sprain and will not have any problem playing in the Super Bowl. It should be noted that Plaxico Burress has had the same injury all season and has managed to play through it.

Tom Brady sure loves New York, huh? Not only does he walk around town wearing a Yankees hat, but he comes here to spend time with his ubermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. Brady was spotted walking to Bundchen's West Village apartment Monday carrying flowers (how sweet) and wearing a protective boot on his right foot.

If there is such a thing as a good loss the Giants earned it when they lost 38-35 to the Patriots last night. History will remember the Patriots 16-0 mark, but unfortunately it will forget that in a meaningless game on a Saturday night they faced their toughest challenge.

For the Giants the final week of the regular season is all about questions. Will they start their regulars on Saturday night? Should they start their regulars? Does it even matter if they do start them? In any other year the answers would be clear; send the starters out for a quarter and then get everyone off the field and rested for next week’s playoff game. But, this is not an ordinary week, this is a chance to stop history by beating the undefeated Patriots scream some pundits.

The Patriots and Jets didn't have the worst weather in the league Sunday, but they still had plenty to complain about. Rain and wind didn't stay the Patriots from improving to 14-0 with a 20-10 win over the Jets in Foxborough, Mass.. It did help the Jets keep the game close and easily cover the record 27-point spread, for those who care about those things.

In Los Angeles, LAist most definitely celebrated Thanksgiving like no other. After all, one has to keep up all the energy to keep on walking the line at the Writers Strike and fighting the unfortunate return of the wildfires in Malibu, which single handedly destroyed over fifty homes within the first 24 hours. National outlets may be covering the fires, but CNN also found it is easier to buy a gun than fruit and veggies in South Central. On the entertainment front, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing Showtime over the show titled Californication and Rami Kashou of Project Runway chatted with LAist about his Palestinian heritage and, of course, designing beauty.

Protest over national vs. regional chains, the never-ending debate over the place of cars and bicycles in our metropolises, professional sports scandals, remembering a solemn day, and being issued a search warrant - it all happened across our sites this week!

Thanks to the Patriots' spying, the Jets have enjoyed a week surprisingly free of the questions that normally follow teams that start the season with convincing losses at home. According to The Times, 14 of the 25 questions fielded by Coach Eric Mangini on Wednesday dealt with the alleged filming of the Jets' defensive signals. Rest assured, Eric Mangini's not thinking about the Patriots offense but instead the Ravens defense.

Life's easier the lower you keep everyone's expectations. Bill Waterson once had Calvin impart that wisdom in the comic strip, and the Jets are about to find that out as well. Last year, Coach Eric Mangini worked wonders to get the team into the playoffs and created a situation where media and fans will be looking for more. Don't be surprised if the team doesn't improve upon last year's results.
