Some details of 24-year-old Sayed Rahman's confession to the murder of Ingrid Rivera at Times Square karaoke club Spotlight Live have emerged. The victim's friend has spoken out about the events of the evening--she, too, was attacked by Rahman--though there seem to be conflicting reports about all of the details. The way the Daily News tells it, Rivera and Sasha Castillo had been invited to Lil' Kim's party by a member of the rapper's entourage,......

Hopefully you've been loading up on electrolytes and getting plenty of sleep because the Tribeca Film Festival begins tonight, and boy is it a jam-packed 12 days to come. With 41 countries represented and over two hundred feature as well as short films, this year's Tribeca Film Festival is an impressive (and frankly, a touch overwhelming) array of movie treats. While the fest was started in 2002 as a boost for the depressed downtown area,......

It's opening day on Coney Island's boardwalk and there's still time to hop on a D,F,N, or Q train to Stillwell Avenue before things get started. 11 a.m. marks the Blessing of the Rides at Deno's Wonder Wheel with a ribbon cutting and live music. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will break the ceremonial egg cream at 11:30 a.m. to open the rides and the first 100 people on the Cyclone get to ride free.......

This week, Sarah Michelle Gellar is back for more creepy girls hiding in her hair in the new sequel, The Grudge 2. Amber Tamblyn plays her sister, who also travels to Tokyo and is also infected by the grudge inducing curse. While both American versions of the Grudge movies were directed by their Japanese creator Takashi Shimizu, it would seem that the better material would be in the originals, so we suggest renting those instead.......

"Socially, there is very little difference between a multitude of people all having their own private aural experiences and a multitude of people stoned out of their gourds." That's NYU's Mark Crispin Miller on the idea of the proliferation of directional speakers, speakers which send sound in a focused column (imagine the light beam of a Maglight but instead of sending out light it sent sound). There are currently two companies that produce directional......

This year more than any we remember from recent past, theater companies are gearing up to bring you Halloween-related shows. It’s appropriate, when you think about it – actors are all about dressing up as people/things other than themselves, so they should lead the way when the rest of the world decides to masquerade. In any case, options abound citywide. Psycho Clan, for instance, has an interactive haunted house program called Nightmare going, which looks......

Mayor Bloomberg had a lot to smile about, as he announced that New York City's crime rate was historic lows in 2004. NYC is still the safest big city in the U.S., reducing crime in all five boroughs, and is on track to have less than 600 murders for a third year in a row. Gothamist read the press release and found these points telling: - Crime is down 5% citywide; specific drops included 11.5%......

Just a reminder incase you didn't see this post last month: Gothamist has missed far too many sold out shows to know that buying tickets ahead of time is imperative. In that vain, every other week or so we'll make it a point to update you with a list of shows we think may sell out. This way you can buy tickets ahead of time and avoid that last minute Craigslist surfing. Here is a......

Gothamist woke up early Tuesday morning. Very early. To meet with the pinnacle of early morning radio, John Richards (aka – John in the Morning). He is used to waking up early, we are not. Sitting in the makeshift studio on the 5th floor of the Museum of Television & Radio on 52nd Street (where John is broadcasting from all week), we asked if he is as chipper in the AM hours as he seems......
