Man Spends $60,000—And Counting—In Custody Fight Over Puggle

Dog is man's best friend, but is spending $60,000 in a custody fight over a dog too much—or too little? Craig Dershowitz is trying to get a puggle named Knuckles back from his ex-girlfriend, claiming that she kidnapped him when they broke up. Dershowitz has turned to a website to raise money for legal fees and says, "My ex has a wealthy family that is backing her. I do not. I am paying for this out of my own savings while also helping my mom through her medical issues. My ex is filing motion after frivolous motion just knowing that each time my lawyer responds it takes me one step closer to having nothing at all. It is a game I cannot win, but, with the justice system the way it is, it is a game I must play." more ›

Fruit Roll-Ups Packaging Is Deceptive, Lawsuit Alleges

Gay Cop Sues NYPD For Taking His Scholarship Away

Fox (yes, that is his name) an unnecessarily negative review by Platoon Commander Lieutenant Roger Lurch led him to lose a year-long paid leave of absence and a scholarship to Hunter College—and so sued to get both back [PDF]. Maybe the fact that Fox is gay and Lurch is not could help his case? more ›

Not long after she was terminated, the Post reports. "I decided to become a kidney donor to my boss, and she took my heart," says Stevens, who probably has a great future as a blues singer ahead of her. more ›

He said the exact amount would be determined in a 'subsequent order.'" more ›

Roommate's 'Disturbing' Sex Life Forced Student Into Intensive Therapy

This week, a former Stonehill College student from NY sued the school, claiming that her roommate's "disturbingly" open sex life drove her into a suicidal depression—and the college was derelict in helping her deal with it. Lindsay Blankmeyer, who is seeking $150,000 in damages in the suit, alleges that roommate Laura Sidla was having online and in-person sex when she was in the room. And it got so bad, it drove her to drop out of school to go into therapy: “[Blankmeyer’s] psychiatric condition deteriorated to the point that she had to leave school and seek intensive treatment with her psychiatrist back in New York,” attorney Eric Broutman said. “What should have been one of the happiest times in her life was turned into a tragedy.” more ›

Lindsay Blankmeyer alleges in the lawsuit that roommate “Laura,” was having online and in-person sex when she was in the room: “More disturbingly, Laura would have sex with her boyfriend while Lindsay was trying to sleep just a few feet away. Laura would also engage in sexually inappropriate video chatting when Lindsay was in the room,” the complain says. At least there were no roosters involved. more ›

The Navajo Nation Sues Urban Outfitters

The Navajo Nation Sues Urban Outfitters

The Navajo Nation is the latest group to file a lawsuit against Urban Outfitters. The move comes months after the tribe sent a cease and desist to the retailer demanding they pull the "Navajo" name from products. As Sasha Houston Brown, a Native American activist, wrote in her open letter to the store last Columbus Day, they sell what she believes to be "culturally offensive" items, like plastic dreamcatchers, artificial feather jewelry, and hyper sexualized clothing with faux tribal patterns. Amongst the items that are a part of their "Navajo collection" flasks and hipster panties. more ›

Judge Rules Angry Ex-Girlfriends Can Trash Cheating Boyfriend On Website

Remember, last year, when Gloria Allred was defending two women for their right to trash their cheating ex on a website? Now Justice is smiling because a judge agreed with Allred. After looking an angry exes' web postings, such as "Lied and cheated his entire way through his 40 years of life" and "HE'S SCUM. RUN FAR AWAY," the Daily News reports that New York Federal Judge Harold Baer found the comments to be "clearly hyperbolic" rather than defamatory, "When viewed within the larger context of the website on which they were posted, there can be no doubt that a reasonable reader would understand the comments to be opinion." more ›

Stupid PPW Bike Lane Lawsuit Costs City Over $140K, Not Including Idiotic Appeal

Stupid PPW Bike Lane Lawsuit Costs City Over $140K, Not Including Idiotic Appeal

As you may have heard, the rich Park Slope crybabies who hate the popular Prospect Park West bike lane so much that they sued the city are suing the city yet again. They claim the DOT faked data to make the bike lane seem better than it is, and they've got a high-power attorney representing them pro bono, because those are the kind of perks you get when you're married to Senator Chuck Schumer. Their first lawsuit was thrown out because they filed their lawsuit after the statute of limitations had passed. The city had to spend $140,000 in legal fees to get that publicity stunt laughed out of court, and the meter's still running. more ›

Case Dismissed Against Photographer Who Took "X-Rated" Pic Of 15-Yr-Old Model

Last year Urban Outfitters and photographer Jason Lee Parry got into some trouble after a 15-year-old model named Hailey Clauson was featured in an "X-rated" print on a t-shirt sold in the store. Parry was the photographer, and the model's parent's filed a lawsuit against him and the retailer in Manhattan Federal Court. Yesterday, about six months after filing, a Manhattan federal judge dismissed the $28 million suit, at least against Parry, who the judge said “is not subject to jurisdiction under New York law." According to the NY Post, this is because the photo was shot in California. Urban Outfitters, however, remains a defendant in the case. At the time, Blood is the New Black (who made the shirt in question), told us: more ›

NYCLU Explains Why Churches Shouldn't Worship In Schools

Apparently the Supreme Court's decision is not good enough to the NY State Legislature when it comes to allowing religious groups to worship in city schools. Last June, the U.S. Second Circuit of Appeals ruled that NYC public schools can prohibit religious services, and the Supreme Court refused to hear the case, letting the Second Circuit's decision stand. But, still, the State Senate will consider a bill to allow religious services in schools. And the NYCLU wants to remind lawmakers why it's a terrible idea. more ›
