Video: Bloomberg Gives Conan O'Brien NYC Citizenship Test, Coco Makes Mayor Write NY Post Headlines

Last night, Conan O'Brien was live from the Beacon Theatre, airing one of four episode of his TBS late night talk show from his former hometown. O'Brien declared that even though it had been two (harrowing) years since leaving NYC, he felt it was like he never left. So Mayor Bloomberg paid him a visit to give him the new NYC citizenship. Sample questions: How do you get from Ozone Park to Carnegie Hall? (The A to the L to the Q) What is Derek Jeter's greatest accomplishment? (Obviously) more ›

Conan O'Brien Is In NYC, And His Hat Is A Hit With The Dudes

Conan O'Brien will be filming his late-night talk show from the Beacon Theatre this week, and he bought a new chapeau! He just Tweeted, "Bought this hat because i thought it would make me look cool in New York. So far, six men have asked me out." So it was TOTALLY worth the money! Also awesome about his shows: O'Brien will be officiating a same-sex marriage for one of his staffers! more ›

Video: Smurf Week Ends With Ritual Smurf Beheading By Harrison Ford

Video: Conan O'Brien's Live Show, Now A Documentary

Last year, following his departure from NBC (for TBS), Conan O'Brien took his downtime to travel the country with a live stage show. This tour was documented, and now you can check out all the behind-the-scenes antics, and breakdowns, when it's released on June 24th. The trailer is below, though in our opinion it needs a lot more Reggie Watts (who opened on the tour). As for O'Brien, he'll be back on stage in New York later this year. more ›

2010 Emmy Noms: Glee Leads With 19, Conan Gets A Nod

2010 Emmy Noms: Glee Leads With 19, Conan Gets A Nod

The Emmys showed the nomination love to Glee, Mad Men, Lost, Modern Family, The Good Wife, and many more programs. Glee's Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele got lead acting nods, while Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch were recognized in the supporting category (if Lynch doesn't win, it'll just be another Emmy screwup), as part of Glee's 19 nominations. And here's a show that we'd like to see win: Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show was nominated for best variety or sketch comedy program (as well as best writing for variety or sketch comedy), while Letterman and Leno's show weren't. more ›

Leno Loses Viewers For The Tonight Show

Leno Loses Viewers For The Tonight Show

Remember when NBC fired Conan O'Brien for not getting good ratings, moving Leno back to his old post at The Tonight Show? Then most of America got on Team Coco while Leno prepped for his comeback and O'Brien took his show on the road? Well the numbers are in, and Leno is not only getting lower ratings than O'Brien did, but he's not beating Letterman either (they're tied). Probably should have seen this coming when O'Brien joined Twitter and within hours had double the amount of Leno's followers. [via WWTDD] more ›

Conan O'Brien Finally Speaks Out On Air

Conan O'Brien Finally Speaks Out On Air

Conan O'Brien was finally back on the air last night, albeit briefly. He sat down for an interview, his first since leaving NBC, that aired on 60 Minutes. We already knew some of what he'd be saying—but he added that the interview probably wouldn't have taken a different tone even if he didn't have an agreement barring him from disparaging Jay Leno and his former employer. He also discussed how small victories like finally growing a beard, and larger ones like his current stage show, have helped him get through the year, where he's admitted to getting "very depressed at times." Here's a clip from last night's show: more ›

His new show will begin airing in November at 11 p.m. on TBS, and his arrival will push George Lopez's show to the midnight slot. Is Max Weinberg Leaving Conan For... Leno?!

Is Max Weinberg Leaving Conan For... Leno?!

Et tu, Weinberg? It appears Conan O'Brien's longtime bandleader, Max Weinberg, may be crossing the late night war battle lines and joining Team Leno! According to Movieline "Weinberg recently made overtures to Leno about joining the new Tonight Show as Leno’s bandleader. He’d be replacing Kevin Eubanks, who announced in February that he had plans to leave the show." The shocking news may be welcome to those on the inside; allegedly he wasn't a favorite amongst staffers. Why's that? "When O’Brien’s show was still located in New York, Weinberg would send interns to do gardening work at his house on the New Jersey shore." Make a note of it, Leno interns. more ›

Leno Thinks He Got "Screwed"

Leno Thinks He Got "Screwed"

Jay Leno managed to get some of the spotlight from Conan O'Brien, who has recently kept relevant the only ways he can (until September): via Twitter and an untelevised stage show. Leno seems to be playing the victim; according to the Daily News he recently told Joy Behar that he got screwed just as much as Conan did (video). He added, "I don't quite get why I get beat up over it. I know people don’t really understand sort of how this business works. It's all numbers. You know, the affiliates wanted us back, so we came back. Conan got screwed and I got screwed." more ›

Will Fox Score Conan?

Will Fox Score Conan?

Is Fox still courting Conan or does the network have the host nearly locked down for a future late night program? According to reports, he's been presented with the outline of a deal for a show on Fox, but no official offer has been made. This is according to the Hollywood Reporter, who note the talks aren't exclusive, and allegedly "O'Brien has been pitched about two dozen ideas for his next TV gig, including five or six legitimate enough for consideration." Meanwhile, TMZ reports that Fox execs have been in touch with several affiliates, "applying pressure" to put Conan on the air during the 11 o'clock hour. more ›

Stern Calls Leno A "Lap Dog"

Stern Calls Leno A "Lap Dog"

Jay Leno made his return to television last night, reclaiming The Tonight Show desk from Conan O'Brien (who has been banished to Twitter). One of Leno's many, many critics, Howard Stern, was on CBS's Early Show today where he said, "Just the mere mention of Jay Leno's name makes me to want to vomit. I don't like this guy. I don't disguise it. [He] seems to be the kind of showbiz animal that won't let go. Jay is a lap dog." He said if Leno was a real man, when he was originally replaced by Conan he would have moved to another network and tried to beat both him and Letterman in ratings. Well, last night he did beat Letterman, but Conan still has almost a half million more Twitter followers! more ›

Live & Untelevised: Conan O'Brien

Live & Untelevised: Conan O'Brien

It seems that Conan O'Brien maneuvered a departure deal with NBC that would allow him to make public appearances, as long as they weren't televised. As such, the comedian and former Tonight Show host may be concocting a stage show until he can get back on the air in September. An insider told the NY Post that "There's nothing to stop him doing his show in front of an audience at venues like Radio City. It will build more buzz for him as he negotiates his next television contract. It will also keep Conan happy because he doesn't want to be out of the public consciousness for too long." more ›

Leno Talks To Oprah

Leno Talks To Oprah

Jay Leno is doing some damage control after his role in the Great Late Night War of 2010. He went on Oprah today to talk about taking back the The Tonight Show from Conan O'Brien, saying he doesn't regret anything, because the decisions made weren't his. He told the daytime host, "Anything they did would have been better. If they had come in and shot everybody, it would have been, ‘Oh, the people were murdered.’ But it would have been a two day story.” more ›

Fox Wants Conan

Fox Wants Conan

Did you see Conan's "Free Bird" farewell on Friday night? He's now off the air until at least September 1st, with the NY Post further igniting rumors that his next move may be to Fox. They report that more talks will likely be starting this week between two parties, and Fox has looked at clearing their 11 p.m. time slot. Currently the network doesn't have a late night lineup—their last attempt was with Chevy Chase in 1993, whose show was canceled after four weeks; prior to that Joan Rivers lasted less than a year. Their entertainment president says, "He's one of the few guys on the planet who has demonstrated he can do one of these shows every night." They'd reportedly like to close a deal with the host quickly—and one Conan source says he'd want a big budget, and "won't do anything that is not a high-quality show." more ›

Your Daily Late Night War Roundup

The day is finally here: tonight's Tonight Show will be the last hosted by Conan O'Brien. With the departure deal now signed, the Wall Street Journal discusses how the host will do with that whole nondisparagement clause thing. At any rate, he had no pause when it came to taking shots at the network during last night's show (though Robin Williams did most of the dirty work). He's also joked about some loopholes: like being able to trash NBC in Spanish, or in song. more ›
