In January, a roving monster with some real nasty lice terrorized Manhattan yuppies in Cloverfield. A few weeks later, the $11,000 Clover coffee machine began showing up in the press to devour yuppie wallets. El Beit in Williamsburg owns one of 6 such machines in the five boroughs. It charges “Market Price” – anywhere from $2.75 to $3.50 – for a choice of brew made with beans distributed through North Carolina’s Counter Culture. From the......

By now you've either seen Cloverfield, or decided you didn't need to see NYC destroyed yet again. But with a sequel on the way, this monster just isn't going away anytime soon. To be sure of that, Hasbro has now created a Cloverfield monster toy (photos are after the jump for those who haven't checked this guy out on the big screen yet). This is some bad news for Barbie! The 14" tall monster features......

If you haven't tired of Cloverfield yet, chances are you will by the time the sequel hits the big screen. That's right, the monster smash will be followed up, and it may be soon. Variety reports that Matt Reeves is already in talks with Paramount to direct, and it may even be his next project. When we interviewed him earlier this year, he said his next project would be The Invisible Woman, but now that......

Lucifer Darkside, by lovebryan Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a bank robbery on 7th Ave. in Manhattan, a bank robbery on 3rd Ave. in Manhattan, and another bank robbery on 3rd Ave. in Manhattan. Save us Johnny Utah! Stuff embedded in asphalt; it's cooler than it initially sounds. Recreate the ambiance of Rob-from-Cloverfield's going-away party before things get crazy by downloading the jam's soundtrack. A state employee was arrested for stealing hundreds of historical......

Yesterday was the annual Idiotarod, which is both loved and hated by locals. We hear that this year the head honchos were tossing non-competitors out of the checkpoints, this coupled with the amount of jocks tackling people leads us to believe that this (sadly) may have been the last good run. There have also been a ton of complaints about the competitors and organizers littering the streets, leaving their paths trashed with no clean-up effort.......

Say, did you hear anything about this movie that opens today, Cloverfield? No? Yeah, it’s kind of a [Spoiler Alert!] obscure art-house thing, all shot with a camcorder from the perspective of a few friends fleeing a massive monster smashing Manhattan. We attended a screening earlier in the week and deemed it top-shelf disaster porn; though the main characters are rather annoying and the apocalypse takes a little too long to blast off, “by the......

The last sentence uttered before all hell breaks loose is, “Forget about the rest of the world and hold onto the ones you care about.” Though probably unintentional, those words of brotherly advice – spoken to a lovesick young yuppie named Rob – perfectly sum up the prevalent attitude in fin de siècle New York: the world’s spinning into a cataclysm of total war and catastrophic climate change, but fuck it; let’s party and......

In the interview that follows he spills some juicy details about the film, including what the title really means, which will be in theaters this Friday. Over the years you have been very selective in your choice of projects. What made you want to direct your first monster movie? Well, I guess it had to do......

The DC Comic Watchmen is coming to the big screen, and the NYC sets were recently revealed! They aren't tearing apart town or stopping traffic like Cloverfield or I Am Legend, instead they're filming the alternate universe New York, mostly circa 1985, in Vancouver. Director Zack Snyder said:After a couple months of shooting at various locations and on stages, last week we finally made the transition to our New York City backlot. Since the New......

The new trailer for Cloverfield (the JJ Abrams movie due out in January) has been released, and only proves a tad more revealing than the first. With a giant monster destroying New York City, this movie will certainly be for those who like "destruction porn," because nothing really beats the Statue of Liberty being decapitated... Abrams turned the Lower East Side into a war zone earlier this year, but he's been hush-hush about any details......
