Subway Slasher Used A Pen, Smoked A Blunt

Subway Slasher Used A Pen, Smoked A Blunt

More facts have emerged from yesterday's subway face slashing. Despite initial reports that the attack on the 3 train took place with a pencil, it now appears the weapon was a pen. And that cigarette that the attacker was supposedly lighting up on the subway? It was actually more like a blunt. Perhaps he thought yesterday was 4/20? more ›

[UPDATE] Woman Stabbed In Head With Pencil On Rush Hour Subway

[UPDATE] Woman Stabbed In Head With Pencil On Rush Hour Subway

[Update Below] As much as we love the subway—and boy do we love the subway—we do have some not-entirely irrational fears about it. Like, what if we end up on the garbage train? What if we get in the middle of a food-related fight? What if the rat guy is in our car? And more seriously, what if we fall into the tracks? Now we can add another probably irrational fear to that list: What if a homeless man stabs us in the head with a pencil? more ›

Murder Suspect's Stabbing Victim Shows Off Stab Wounds

Last Saturday morning, Joseph Lozito was in an uptown 3 train, headed to his job at the Avery Fisher Hall box office, when a dirty, disheveled man entered. The man was Maksim Gelman, the focus of a citywide manhunt after he allegedly killed three people in Brooklyn and was stabbing drivers in order to steal their cars. And after failing to enter the motorman's car, Gelman allegedly turned his knife on Lozito, said, "You're going to die," and stabbed him in the head. more ›

Great Strategy To Rid Yourself Of Subway Seatmates

Great Strategy To Rid Yourself Of Subway Seatmates

On days like this, banning food on the subway makes sense. Especially when people are total slobs. At least there was a free daily around so the spill could be sopped up, but no one wanted to sit down for a few stops (of course, at Penn Station, the masses were more than happy to rest their weary legs in a coffee + newsprint puddle). Silver lining: At least it wasn't a possible bedbug? more ›

Delays On 2, 3 Train

After an annoying 2, 3 train signal issue at West 72nd Street on Tuesday (it's not so fun being stuck between 42nd and 72nd Street on a 2 train for 25 minutes!), folks who take the 2,3 uptown should know this: NYCT Subway Scoop Tweeted, "Due to NYPD investigation of a customer injury @ 110th St, 3 suspended; downtown 2 via 5 Mott Ave (149th St) to Nevins St (BK)," followed by "Due to NYPD investigation @ 110th St, Uptown 2 & 3 terminating 2 Times Sq & 96th St. Expect delays," and now "Update: injured customer @ 110th St removed by EMS/NYPD, regular 2 & 3 service restored w/residual delays." more ›

1 Train Problems Persist After 181st Station Ceiling Collapse

Commuting woes continue for 1 train riders north of 168th Street, as the MTA has continued to suspend service—details here—as it works clear up debris from a ceiling collapse at the West 181st Street station. (And if yesterday's commute was any indication, 2 and 3 line riders are also being squeezed.) The MTA explained that around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, "A section of the brick architectural façade fell 35 feet to the track bed below. A downtown 1 train was in the station, but did not sustain any major damage." And luckily no one was injured. more ›

Accused Subway Perv: "My Private Parts Fell Out"

Accused Subway Perv: "My Private Parts Fell Out"

After his picture was released by the police on Wednesday, the 3 train's suspected subway masturbator was arrested yesterday—by two cops who recognized him from the wanted posters. And guess how Kevin Bishop, 34, who has 64 prior arrests explained his actions? According to the court documents, he admitted to the police, "That's me in the pictures, my private parts fell out. I looked down and it was out, it just popped out. I was trying to put it back... I deeply apologize for what happened. I do admit the whole truth." He is being held on $1,500 bail. Administrative assistant Celeana White had taken a cellphone photograph, which detectives say is one of the best ever (quality-wise, we guess) cellphone pictures given to them. As for White's claim that a cop told her a subway flashing wasn't a police matter and suggested she call 311 instead, the Post reports the cop "admitted she told the woman to call 311, but insists she really meant to say 911" (according to Post sources). more ›

Seen: Subway Masturbator On Uptown 3 Train

Seen: Subway Masturbator On Uptown 3 Train

The police have released a photograph of a man who was allegedly masturbating on an uptown 3 train last week. A 41-year-old woman took a cellphone picture of the man she claims was pleasuring himself in front of her. The man got on the train at 42nd Street/Times Square at 3:45 p.m. and then got out at the 96th Street stop. And 1010WINS adds, "The woman says she tried to lodge a complaint at the 32nd Precinct and provide police there with the suspect's photograph but was apparently rebuffed by an officer who, according to the complainant, told her it was not a police matter and to report it through 311." The police urge people with information to call Crime Stoppers (800-577-TIPS), go to the Crime Stoppers website or text 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. And Internal Affairs is looking into the "not a police matter" part. more ›

More Service for 3 and Other Lines

More Service for 3 and Other Lines

The NYC Transit Authority announced that it's adding service to a few subway lines starting tomorrow, perhaps to soften to blow of another impending fare hike. Notably, the 3 train will resume 24/7 service to 145th and 148th Streets (it was stopped 13 years ago because of "low ridership"), and there will also be additional overnight service between Times Square and 148th Street during the week. The W will finally have more rush hour morning trains and will run until 11 p.m. on weekdays (it stops at 9:30 p.m.). The 7 will get 14 additional round trips between Flushing and Times Square on the weekends, and the B's hours will be extended to 11 p.m. on weekdays and M lines will also be getting more expanded service. more ›
