We've mentioned it a few times already, but here's another warning: The MTA is shutting down the 1, 2, and 3 lines below 34th Street, Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. While some of you might complain, the MTA will use the time to make needed repairs.

New NYE Numerals Arrive On Pedicab
Last year Times Square got a new LED-lit ball for its New Years Eve celebration; two years ago the number 8 took the 6 train to the Crossroads of the World; and yesterday morning the numbers 1 and 0 got ushered in by pedicab! The duo will be on display for a week at the Duracell Smart Power Lab at 1540 Broadway. Somehow none of the LED bulbs managed to burst during the surely bumpy ride.

You may recall that back in July our tap water placed 2nd in a tap water taste test, coming in behind Bethpage (wherever that is). Well, we've been vindicated, because at the NY State Fair in Syracuse--we placed 1st! The New York State Department of Health has announced that NYC "won the coveted title for best-tasting drinking water in New York over 150 other municipal water systems during the final competition." However, they note it's a "nonscientific competition," and the Health Commissioner downplayed the achievement by declaring:"Considering that NYC's water comes from reservoirs in Delaware, Greene, Ulster, Putnam, Westchester, Schoharie, Sullivan and Dutchess counties, these counties are also winners." Whatever, the blue ribbon is all ours...along with the A grade Riverkeeper gave us for tap water back in May.
NYU Drops from Top Dream School to Dream Safety
For three years straight, NYU has dominated the annual Princeton Review "College Hopes and Worries" survey, coming in as the #1 “dream school” for college-bound students. But now NYU’s reign of dreams has turned into a humiliating nightmare, as the 2008 survey shows the university plummeting to the #4 slot, bested by Harvard, Stanford and Princeton.
