Some classic cars from popular culture are on display at Long Island's Cradle of Aviation Museum. The Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard, and K.I.T.T. from the original Knight Rider series are among the souped up vehicles to be seen. George Barris, the famous car customizer who transformed a Ford concept car into the Batmobile for the 1960s TV show (it's also on display), is hoping to create an Autoseum... [continue]

Saturday's thunderstorm ended just in time for Brooklyn Pigfest benefiting the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Beer, BBQ and bluegrass were promised and that's exactly what was delivered, along with an impromptu game of "tip cup". Those in attendance imbibed, and seemed to enjoy, the many varieties of Brooklyn Brewery beer (open bar was included with admission). The food was plentiful, and though it was PIGfest, the macaroni and cheese was the highlight of our... [continue]

One of the first rules of using your iPod in the subway is to ditch the white headphones. Apple's tell-tale earbuds can have the negative effect of drawing attention to the fact that you are carrying a ~$400 device on you (we've known this since 2005, when iPod robberies were all the rage). Probably not something that needs to be advertised. When Gothamist first purchased our iPhone on launch day this fact weighed heavily...... [continue]

As an Apple fanatic for over the past decade, the lure of the iPhone has been tempting me for the last 6 months. When I finally walked out of the Fifth Avenue store, I wondered if this would be the answer to my phone desires. And I think it has. My Treo650 - while faithful to the last (it survived a laundry wash) had started to experience multiple crashes daily, three of them while... [continue]

With less than four days until the Apple iPhone finally hits shelves across the country, anticipation is reaching a boiling point. This $600 device (for 8gb, $500 for 4gb) is following the tradition set down by generations (and repeated recently with the PS3), fan boys are starting to amass in the time honored tradition of excessive line waiting. The honor of first in line goes to two gentlemen whom Gizmodo interviewed at the Fifth... [continue]

after seeing this film on all the top movie lists of all time, I finally watched "Manhattan" tonight. It's such a great love letter to Manhattan - and I really enjoyed it. What do you guys think? Or does it... [continue]

At the Nokia Theater in Time Square last night, Microsoft officially launched Vista and Office 2007 to the US masses. It was here in New York City, twenty-four years ago, that the software behemoth first announced their commitment to a GUI interface. Last night, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer rattled off stats and spiel in a setting where even the escalator bolts were Vista branded! The much often-delayed and joked-about OS comes with 1.5... At its annual Macworld in San Francisco, Apple Computer, Inc (wait, now Apple Inc.) announced yesterday two devices that it hopes to help further integrate itself into your life like never before. These two products were rumored for a long time, causing many years of heart ache and pain to faithful. The most exciting product to come out today was by far the iPhone. Rumored forever and in development for two and a half years... [continue]

Zune In or Zune Out on November 13, 2006

After giving Apple's iPod a five year lead, Microsoft is finally set to officially launch its comeback response in the form of Zune. But is it too late to eat into Apple's market share? We spent a few hours with the device last week, here are our findings. A digital music player at its heart, it contains a 30GB hard drive, a beautiful three inch screen, and an FM radio. It also can play... [continue]

Not everyone was forunate enough to score Game 7 tickets, or didn't want to spend 4x the ticket price for them. Instead we are here with friends live blogging the Cardnials vs Mets! The Cardinals' Jeff Suppan is a better pitcher, but we don't think he'll have the night he had during Game 3. Oliver Perez has a lot to prove, but manager Willie Randolph will pull him and throw everyone in the bullpen... [continue]
