Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison were chosen as reserves for the 2008 NBA All-Star games yesterday, a just reward for the two players largely responsible for keeping the Washington Wizards in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt. The Feb. 17 game in New Orleans will mark the second All Star appearance for both players. Butler is in the midst of a career year. He is currently averaging career highs in points (21.9), steals (2.4), assists... [continue]

For 25 minutes, D.C. United attacked the Chicago Fire unrelentingly. They poured all of their efforts forward, creating chance after chance. In the process, they scored the two goals they needed to advance to the Eastern Conference finals. Unfortunately, United's disjointed play during the preceding 70 minutes allowed Chicago to tally two goals of their own, earning them the 2-2 tie, the 3-2 series victory on aggregate, and a ticket to the next round....... This brilliant photo was left out of our Zombie Lurch '07 slideshow on Monday, and thank goodness, because this has Photo of the Day written all over it. Flickr user outdoor_type gives this zombie bride an apocalyptic sepia toned home, where she can rightly protest the lack of edible brainz next to our seemingly abandoned national treasure. EXIF....... [continue]

Big changes are in store for the long line of folks standing at the burrito cart outside the CVS on 15th and K streets NW. As of November 15, Pedro and Vinny’s John Rider will be handing over the reins to his new associate and business partner, William Risbrook. Flyers will go up tomorrow announcing these changes as well as information about the cart's move to the corner of 14th and L. There it...... [continue]

Okay, so we've already given Brooklyn's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah a less than stellar live review and sufficiently curbed our enthusiasm when they announced two November dates at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Fortunately for the band, our lukewarm opinions hardly affected their ticket sales, as both dates have been sold out for weeks. Unfortunately for fans of the band (including some DCist staffers), the dates were so popular that both were actually oversold,... [continue]

Saturday night's meeting of D.C. United and Toronto FC looked like a mismatch on paper. An expansion team with the worst record in Major League Soccer lined up against the most decorated club in the league's history and current point leaders. Add D.C.'s distinctive home field advantage and you have a recipe for a blowout. Yet for one half, TFC hung with their hosts. Indeed, at many points in the first half Toronto was the...... Despite having to fend off a persistent Chivas Guadalajara attack for most of the game and playing a man down for 50 minutes, United pulled out a 2-1 victory in the first leg of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana home-and-home series. From the get-go the Goats took advantage of quick, incisive passing to carve through the United midfield. Four times in the opening 16 minutes Chivas attackers had a clear line to the goal, yet......
