Video: Proud Jets Fan Removed from Chargers Game in Handcuffs

Video: Proud Jets Fan Removed from Chargers Game in Handcuffs

It's unclear what this exuberant Jets fan did to provoke his arrest during the third quarter of Sunday's Jets-Chargers game in San Diego, when his team was still behind. It could be there was some rowdy behavior that ended up on the cutting room floor, but all we see in this video is a swarm of security guards and cops taking him away in handcuffs—and it's telling that all the Chargers fans around him seem pretty outraged by the ejection. (High five to the guy chanting "Attica! Attica" at the 50 second mark.) more ›

Tavern on The Green, Sold Off Piece by Piece

Tavern on The Green, Sold Off Piece by Piece

Apparently some people did like the décor in Tavern on the Green, after all—a court-ordered sale of the restaurant’s gawdy interior made a big dent in the bankrupt establishment’s $8 million debt. The piecemeal auction, which sold not only items from Tavern but from the Russian Tea Room and other restaurants, lasted three days and earned millions. But was it enough to keep the historic eatery’s 400-plus creditors at bay? more ›

Attention Burglars: Some New Yorkers Don't Lock Their Doors

Attention Burglars: Some New Yorkers Don't Lock Their Doors

There are two kinds of New Yorkers: those who lock their doors, and those who do not. The Times investigates some of those brave residents with open door policies, like 63-year-old real estate firm vice president Joyce Weisshappel, who never locks her door. In fact, Weisshappel doesn't even know where her keys are. Though Weisshappel lives in a luxury apartment building with 24-hour doormen, others, like 52-year-old Brooklyn resident Sarah, don't have that kind of security. Sarah leaves her door unlocked for brief trips out — like when she walks the dog — though she locks it when she leaves for extended periods. "It's a bit of a habit and maybe a bit of a dare, as I always considered myself lucky." more ›

2010_equinoxsp.jpg
Equinox is starting off 2010 by celebrating its members. At Equinox's new My Body My Biography site, they're showcasing stories from members who have changed their lives with the help of Equinox. One member who was helped by Equinox was A.C. who tells their story:
“I basically had to start from scratch. Eleven years ago, I was in a small plane that crashed. Both the pilot and his daughter and my best friend died. The doctors said I only had a 50/50 chance to survive. 30% of my body was burned and my neck was broken in two places. I was in the hospital ICU unconscious for 30 days, I had multiple skin graft surgeries and then after I fell while trying to learn how to walk I was put in a halo—a ring that is bolted to your skull to stabilize your neck. I had to learn how to walk again, how to brush my teeth again—you name it. The best part of my recovery was going to Equinox, because I could see improvements every day. Eventually, I was able to compete in the Ford Ironman World Championships Triathlon. A theme of Ironman is ‘proving the impossible possible,’ and that is really what my recovery/story is all about.”
Everyone has a story. Start yours today with a trial membership to Equinox. more ›

Note from the Publisher: Welcome Katharine Patricia Chung Wilkins!

Katharine Patricia Chung Wilkins was born at 2:38 pm on January 3, 2010— stats so far: 7 pounds, 1.2 ounces.
