6:30 p.m. // World Financial Center Plaza [North Cove at 200 Vesey St] // Free EVENT: Spend the evening with distinctively dry filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. The night will include a conversation with clips moderated by Museum of the Moving Image curator David Schwartz. "In addition to an exclusive look at scenes from his remarkable new film The Limits of Control, which was photographed by Christopher Doyle and has an ensemble cast including Isaach de BankolĂ©, Paz de la Huerta, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Bill Murray," you'll see plenty of scenes from his previous films. More details here. 8 p.m. // Cantor Film Center, NYU [36 East 8th St] // $18 THEATER: The Left Out festival of gay performance art is in full swing through Monday; tonight's offering has the self-explanatory title, An Evening with Ben Lerman and his Ukulele. According to Time Out, Lerman and his ukulele "make one funny pair," and nytheatre.com's review of the show notes that "while there's little that's new in the material, the funny, musically gifted Lerman is such enjoyable company the time flies. He's like a sought-after party guest—witty, generous, entertaining, and he never wears out his welcome." The whole thing climaxes with an audience-rousing sing-a-long to the chorus of Lerman's hit ditty "Smell Your D*ck." You can loosen up for that by making the most of the free wine reception that comes with your ticket. 8 p.m. // Stage Left Studio [438 West 37th Street, 5-A] // $20 MUSIC: It's on undergrads! (Le) Poisson Rouge is hosting a Battle of the Bands tonight. In one corner: Columbia University, in the other: NYU. The bands are called The Middle Eight, El Diablo Robotico, Capital and Condom Pocket (we're guessing that last one is probably from NYU), and the winners will take home the NYC College Band of 2009 title, and probably some groupies. 8 p.m. // (Le) Poisson Rouge [158 Bleecker St] // $7 |
