Bye Bye Bolaris? It looks like WCBS meteorologist John Bolaris may really be leaving town, as Newsday reported on Tuesday that he sold his home in Wainscott, Long Island for $2.695 million. However, the Newsday piece did say that he was planning to buy a new house "south of Montauk Highway”, however it did not mention how far south, like closer to Philadelphia. Last week you may recall, we speculated when his contract is up... [continue]

As mentioned last week, Oprah is gearing up for her New York invasion in September..the first in ten years! Some new info has come out about what she has planned for her big shows -- though there are no shocking details. First of all, Letterman will be a guest. The two have fueded in the past, but Oprah will welcome the late night host with open arms when she's on his home turf. People reports... [continue]

Josh Schwartz left the sunny beaches of O.C. to bring his brand of teen drama to the gritty city. His new show, Gossip Girl, will premiere on the CW September 19th, and it's been filming all over town lately. The series, which was gabbed about in The Observer recently, is based on the young-adult books of the same name and puts the spotlight on "the struggle for social supremacy among teens from both sides of... Last night Feist took the Letterman stage with a few of her friends. Nicole Atkins, A.C. Newman, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew and members of Brooklyn bands The National and Grizzly Bear were her backup singers, taking a page from the Bright Eyes guide to stage wear and donning all white. Watch it below... Later most of the crew made it over to Pianos for rock n' roll trivia (some helping to host) -- not... [continue]

Since the spring, the Post’s Page Six gossip column has for some reason been following the strange saga of the love life of Long Island native and Philadelphia television anchor Alycia Lane, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Liz Cho. It has, of course but it has provided some strange entertainment since May when the tabloid revealed that she had sent e-mails containing private photos of herself to NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen... Yesterday tickets went on sale for the two Oprah Winfrey show tapings next month (September 10th and 11th) at the WaMu Theatre at Madison Square Garden. The internet went into overload immediately, shutting down the ticket websites. WABC reported: "Due to the amount of interest in these tickets, some people are experiencing difficulties logging on to the ticket site as of 9:00 a.m. Friday." Of course this means that Craigslist is now filled with some... [continue]

Back to the Newsroom Again Since WABC went back to broadcasting Eyewitness News from their newsroom last Friday, there has been much speculation on various television message boards that the station had another problem with the current set or was getting a new set. You might recall that they broadcast from the newsroom after a studio fire in May and given the odd choice of moving on a Friday, it must have made some fear... [continue]

More Trouble for NBC’s Dateline Dateline’s "To Catch a Predator" is generating more trouble for NBC. First it was a federal lawsuit against the network by the family of Bill Conradt, one of the people who was caught in the show sting operation and committed suicide as a result. Then came a lawsuit from a producer who was fired because she had some ethical qualms over the series of shows. That was followed by an... [continue]

Last night food blogger Andrea Strong played the role of her (really mean) self in the Restaurant Wars episode of Top Chef. She was there as an "undercover blogger," an accurate title given by Padma - as Strong got less screen-time than random walk-ins. The competition split the contestants into two teams each with the task of creating a restaurant. Strong gave comments about the decor, service and meals that were read aloud during the... Stormy Weather As we were away from televisions most of Wednesday, we can’t give a blow by blow account of the storm coverage. However, we can give you a brief summary of some of the major things. CBS’ “The Early Show" faced a deluge in their Fifth Avenue studios, forcing them to retreat to the CBS Broadcast Center across town on 57th Street only forty minutes before the broadcast. After a frantic scramble, the... [continue]

Hopefully Monday's season opener of Sesame Street will help in sweepin' these clouds away! The new season will begin how it always does, by determining the educational needs of their tv-watching tot demographic. Recent years focused on healthy eating in an effort to help the younger generation befriend veggies (they even have their own line of healthy foods). This year there are 26 new episodes all focusing on early literacy and language skills. USA... [continue]

Rome: Season 2 As another season of Emmy nominations show, those folks over at HBO original programming know what they're doing. Complex shows filled with meaty characters, lavish spectacle and quite a few racy scenes make those premium cable fees seem well worth the expense. However, if you missed out on the two seasons of Rome, the epic struggle of life during the time of Julius Caesar that's a bit of The Sopranos in togas,... [continue]

If you watch the reality shows, you probably wonder at the random, more boring, points of your day: Whatever happened to so-and-so from Project whatchamacallit? Or more likely, you don't. NY Mag examines the sad, "near-fame experience" of being a Bravo reality star. Somewhere right below the D-list is the space the not-quite almost-famous Bravo TV stars occupy. Though the Bravo competition reality shows generally rely on actual skills, the article's first cautionary tale is... [continue]

The Video Vultures Circle It seems when tragedy writ large strikes, local news crews are dispatched to the scene no matter where it is. This week’s bridge collapse in Minnesota was no different with, as of last night, WCBS, WNYW, and WABC shipping reporters off to cover the death and destruction live. It seems more like vultures flocking to the carcass instead of legitimate coverage. Sending local reporters off just seems a bit much and... [continue]
