A runaway cow escaped from a slaughterhouse in Jamaica, Queens this afternoon in a desperate attempt to avoid his bovine fate. You can see the cow cross Jamaica Avenue in the video below.

Police say that the cow escaped around 12:15 p.m. from Archer Halal Live Poultry, located at 165th Street near Archer Avenue. They have a very detailed description of the cow's movements from there: police spotted it at 164th Street and Jamaica Avenue (see the video above), then followed it to the Jamaica Mall, then back onto 165th Street. It made a right onto Archer Avenue, at which point the cow went into a parking lot, and was captured without any injuries.

Unfortunately, no moo-ricales are in sight for this little big guy: Archer Halal employee Adad Deopersaud told DNAInfo that the cow is scheduled to be slaughtered on Friday. "Tomorrow, we’ll kill it," Deopersaud said. "Every Friday we kill animals."

This was yet another reminder that NYC really shouldn't have a cow, man.
Update: Joanne Yohannan, Senior Vice President of Operations, North Shore Animal League America, tells us, "North Shore Animal League America, along with many others today, was moved by the passion for freedom shown by the cow that escaped from the Jamaica Archer Live Poultry & Meats Slaughterhouse. We are desperately trying to reach someone at the facility but they will not take our calls so we can purchase that cow and place it in an animal sanctuary."
