Wahoo's Fish Taco Opens First East Coast Location On Park Ave

The successful west coast chain Wahoo's has opened up its first east coast location right here in NYC, on Park Avenue South. Founded by three brothers in 1988, the chain is known for a "fast-casual" surf culture style, and the New York debut is decked out with artsy surfboards, skateboards, and snowboards. Take a look around. Bicycles hanging on the walls? Now we've seen everything!

If you know Wahoo's you'll feel right at home with the menu. There is, of course, the Fish Taco ($5.49), which hasn't changed since it was first served in 1988: made with a light flaky white fish, it's grilled and served on a soft corn tortilla with a sharp cheddar jack blend, shredded cabbage and homemade salsa. Additional menu options include the Maui Bowl, Teriyaki marinated steak served over steamed, seasoned rice and beans; Banzai Burrito, Banzai veggies (a mix of onion, cabbage, red and green peppers, mushrooms, zucchini and broccoli), with rice, beans and salsa; and beer battered Maui Onion Rings.

To wash it all down, Wahoo's has six beers on tap, including local Brooklyn-based, Kelso Brewery. (A kid's menu is also available.) And the owners say this 2,500 square foot location is just "the first of many" to open on the east coast.

333 Park Avenue South between 24th and 25th Street; (212) 466-3330

  • Wahoos in haute La Jolla rocks.  What a nice attribute to the ecclectic mix of food in NYC.

We went over the weekend, it was pretty great. I'd never heard of Wahoos before. They definitely have a California vibe going on. Be aware though that they haven't mobilized their bike delivery guys yet, although they expect to get it happening soon. We found that out the hard way :(

I wish Rubio's or Fins of San Diego would set up shop here.
I like the use of fish sticks as oppose to grilled/broiled fish.

Anybody know what the hours are?  A trip to the Wahoo's website did not help.

    Oooh!  Fish tacos!

    Hipsterrific!

  • Fish tacos are not hipster. They are the hotdog of the west coast. Pretty basic

  • Seriously?  what the hell makes fish tacos "hipsterrific?"

  • jrubzer

Agreed, hipsters can claim other retread pastimes like craft brewing and turn of the century facial hair but not fish tacos, sorry. Enough already.

Wahoo's is clutch. The location they chose is not. Credit Suisse' gain is our loss.

  • theoddfather

Oh nice! I haven't had Wahoos for years. One of the things I miss about LA...

  • Midnight Fapper

The Wahoo's on Wilshire/San Vicente was my home away from home for a while.
