Lamont Pride speaks to police

NBC New York aired an interview that alleged cop killer Lamont Pride gave to police about the fatal shooting of police officer Peter Figoski. Pride says, "The reason I decided to come forward with everything is I need to help myself out of this situation. I’m not gonna get out of it. I know I’m gonna do some type of crime. I’m not trying to do the max."

Pride and four other men are accused in the home invasion gone wrong: While some of the men were trying to rob a pot dealer, the police interrupted. In the interviews, Pride's story did change, but he ultimately admitted to bringing a gun to the East New York apartment, "We went over there … but not everything went according to plan." Pride said, "I look up to clutch my hands to run … he is coming and I’m going … so it was like 'Boom.'"... The gun goes off as I clutch my hands to run … I’m like this running. As I’m running, I’m clutching my hands. I never took my hand off the trigger. That was my mistake. I was so nervous and I panicked. I didn't even think."

However, police say that Pride, who had been wanted by NC authorities and was twice arrested by the NYPD, shot him on purpose from point-blank range.

Figoski was a 22-year NYPD veteran. He was a single father with four daughters.

  • If other participants/witnesses and forensics prove he pulled the trigger the jury and the judge ain't gonna buy his "i didn't mean to shoot him" rationalization

    Nor should they.

You bring a gun to a robbery you should be responsible for whatever that gun does. Even if it was an accident. 4 daughters lost their father.

And no doubt he will be held responsible, and knows it. The audio on the video cuts out for me after he says he hopes for "some kind of leniency," but I'd bet that his statement after that is transcribed incorrectly in the article; that is, that he didn't say "I know I’m gonna do some type of crime," but instead it was "I know I’m gonna do some type of time. I’m not trying to do the max."

His hope is to get a lesser sentence or a reduced charge by claiming while he had the gun, he didn't intend to fire it.

Then he shouldn't have had it loaded. Can't accidentally fire a bullet if there's no bullets to fire.
