Photo: Why A Financial Firm Needs Cross Shredder

Some office workers tossed whole pieces of paper out of their windows during the Giants' ticker tape parade on Tuesday—and some of those papers included medical information with Social Security numbers. Other companies probably thought they were fine because they used shredded paper... but this photo shows that one firm probably needs a cross shredder, because this is clearly a stock call option. Probably with enough digging and tape, you could put together the whole document!

The Health Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) requires cross shredding confidential medical documents or face fine as high as $25,000 per violation. These lazy bastards didn't make the effort to find them in such obscure little firms like Staples.

Sooooo... some retail client exercised $2MM+ worth of NYSE listed stock.  SMA = Special Memorandum Account, which is essentially available leverage.  Fuckin 1%er.

Congrats guys, you've broken the code!  We can rule the world!

Easier ways to steal information than compiling a document from shredded materials. It's like crawling through the sewer to sneak into a house via the sump pump in the basement when the front door is actually slightly ajar.

I'm incredulous that any financial company wouldn't, not only cross-shred, but micro-cross-shred.

Nothing confidential or useful about this.

  • Actually "SMA" are the initials of a particularly skilled lady of the evening, and giving her a call is highly suggested.
