Brooklyn Brewery's New Maple Porter Is Maplicious

020712porter.jpg The Brooklyn Brewery just introduced a new beer to its ever-changing array of offerings: Mary's Maple Porter, a tasty and potent (7.5% alcohol by volume) dark ale made with real maple syrup from upstate New York. The beer is named for the brewery's "quality control" supervisor Mary Wiles, who owns 500 acres of maple trees on property in Onondaga. 50 gallons of her Cedarvale Maple Syrup go into each batch, and while the beer doesn't taste sweet, you can definitely taste maple, as well as caramel, chocolate, and coffee flavors from the brewery's blend of roasted malts. Here's a video starring Brooklyn Brewery's brewmaster Garrett Oliver, who has some background for the beer nerds:

The Maple Porter, which is not as heavy as most other porters, will be available now through April in draft only. Here's the list of bars and merchants where it's currently offered, and you can also find it at the Brooklyn Brewery, which welcomes visitors daily and is hosting the "Smorgasbrewery" every Sunday this the winter, until Smorgasburg returns to its outdoor location in the spring.

  • I want to taste only beer when I drink beer.  I don't want no chocolate, coffee, maple, peaches or any other shitting taste you sissies want to put in my beer.

  • Gepap

Sorry, but what does just "beer" taste like? Cause if you think its piss, like Bud or Miller Lite, you are grossly mistaken.

    And then God answered....

  • This is on tap at the Duane Reade on 72nd and B'way.

Ever tried making an Old-Fashioned, but substituting the sugar/simple syrup with real maple syrup? Trust me, it's worth it.

Oh and I mean an actual 3-ingredient Old Fashioned. None of that muddled cherry-pineapple-orange-banana-mango shit they sell at most midtown bars. I didn't order a "Jamba Juice with Rye".

Sounds like I finally have a reason to buy maple syrup at the farmer's market.

  • Oh Almighty Walrus King

that. sounds. amazing. I'm mentally channeling you, prospect heights bartenders: get thee selves some maple syrup, stat! COME TO MY TUMMY! (also, old fashioned with pineapple-orange-banana-whatever? ack! antichrist!)
