Man Fatally Struck By 6 Train, Service Changes In Effect

2012-01_sub6.jpg Around 3:30 p.m., the MTA Tweeted, "#ServAdv: #6 via express, both directions, b/t 125th St & 42nd St-Grand Central due to NYPD investigation at 77th St," and nearly an hour later, "#ServAdv: Customer struck by train at 77th St is deceased, NYPD investigation ongoing service changes on #6 remain. Expect delays on #4 #5"

Police are currently still investigating the incident, which means the 6 is running express in both directions between the 42nd Street-Grand Central Station and the 125th Street Station. Select 6 trains are running local from the 86th Street Station to the 125th Street Station in both directions.

When one NYCTSubwayScoop follower Tweeted that the death was sad, NYCTSubwayScoop replied, " Incredibly. Not just for victim and family but for Train Operator & Conductor who do initial on scene investigation of accident."

and here I was, thinking Jay Z had rented out the stop under Lennox Hill.

The victim was running from the police and tried to climb aboard the train in the middle from the roadbed.

  •  isnt there an underpass?

  • Alex Roussos

    Source?

  • Olivia Patrick

Wait, so he jumped down on the tracks and tried to get up from there? Any information on what he was running from/the situation?

Though the comments and the story are not 100% consistent.

  • nycpat

After another witness agreed with those comments on dnainfo- they have now disappeared. VERY STRANGE. Not what happened but how there is no info about what happened.

  • nycpat

But the comments jibe with other witnesses on tv, i.e.- the trains brakes applied as it was leaving the station. Also, the length of time it took to clear up and the amount of PD suggest PD involvement.
A straightforward suicide or accident during rush hour would take 90 minutes tops.

  • Fingerpick

I trust the word of a witness more than the third hand account of some hack journalist. Sounds like the "victim" was nothing more than a common thug who got himself killed as a result of his own criminal actions. Not much of a loss.

Death is sad.  Death is sadder when it inconveniences literally half a million people.

  • TCF16

No it's not. The people who are sad because of this person's death are probably already as sad as they can be.

But you are still an asshole.

  • David

An asshole with an appointment on the east side.  Stay off the tracks.

  • TCF16

    As suspected. Ask not...

  • LtWorf

The MTA totally botched this one. They ran many 4 and 5 trains locally without telling passengers on board about the change and closed multiple train stations completely between 125th and 86th Street. At least say that on the website and don't wing it.
