Now Playing: Steven Siegel's Amazing Video Footage Of Old New York
We've spent the past few weeks looking back through Steven Siegel's photo archive, which beautifully retells the city's story over the past three decades, from the South Bronx to Bushwick. From utter destruction to Disneyfication. Turns out that Siegel also filmed what was going on throughout all that time, and his videos are no less spectacular. You can watch them all at his YouTube page (some even tell a story), and our favorites are below:
"An unconventional music video in which a mysterious visitor enters a Times Square video arcade circa 1990 (pre-Disney), plays a few video games and somehow cleans the whole place up."
"This is an excerpt from a film made in the 1980's. The film looks at 1980's New York City from a kid's point of view. This particular excerpt focuses on subway graffiti."
"Pre-Disneyfied Times Square at night -- as it existed in the 1980s. As seen from a teenager's point of view. Includes voice-over interviews of teenagers."
" A short documentary film on Coney Island as it existed in the 1970's."
Previously: Siegel tells us about his work, and a changing New York City; we looked back at 14 of his most apocalyptic images from the 1980s; and we looked at the faces of New Yorkers from thirty years ago.

LOVED LOVED LOVED Times Square before Disneyfication, in all its seedy, criminal, whore and drug-infested glory.
New York City had a weird kind of charm back in the 80's. It was full of excitement back then, Sure, you had crime, litter, and it wasn't safe at night, but that was the price you paid.

New York City 2012 fucking blows ass.

The only way to improve these gems is if they were videos of Steven Segal taking back 1980s New York.

wow, a video of the LIRR yard before Gantry Plaza State Park was built and hipsters took over
Great stuff. The Times Square stuff reminds me of the scenes of Las Vegas from Casino with Deniro talking about the corporations coming in and destroying it all.
