After Abandoning Kids, Brooklyn Mom Broke Out The Bubbly

It seems the Brooklyn mom who abandoned her two young daughters alongside the Shore Parkway Sunday afternoon didn't waste any time celebrating her freedom. Not long after leaving the girls on the street with some fresh diapers, Dalisha Adams uploaded this photo to her Facebook page showing a shirtless man holding a bottle of champagne. The Facebook profile seems to have been deleted or set to private (her MySpace page is still active) but the Daily News says the photo appeared on her Facebook page around 6:15; some four hours after dumping her daughters and five hours before she turned herself in to police.

Grandmother, Bertha Davia, tells the News that her son Shawn Cobbs is the girls' father, and that Adams, 26, had accused him of domestic violence on several occasions. She says the couple got into an argument over who should take care of the children on Sunday: "She wanted him to take the kids, and he told her he didn't have a stable place to take the kids. She must have got mad, dressed them kids and brought them here."

A neighbor says she heard Adams screaming on Sunday before she ditched the daughters, yelling, "Stop crying. Shut the f--k up. I'm gonna get you out of here." On a prior occasion, the neighbor claims she heard Adams tell her three-year-old daughter: "I'll punch you in the f-----g face." Adams, a security guard, has been charged with child endangerment, and is currently awaiting arraignment.

I ain't gonna lie; this seemed like such a good idea many, many times when my son was between the ages of 2 and 4.

  • I am wondering is these are further effects of PPD. The usual feeling last about 6-months to a year. However in most cases socioeconomic standpoint play a strong part. I think on the average anyone who makes 50K it is 10.8% whereas anyone making 20K is 19.8%. I am not sure what she was making in a  year, I don't think that security guards make that much. Also with the stress of not having a another partner around to help. Raising a child can be an emotional breakdown.      I am not giving her leeway for her behavior on how she handled the situation but I do think the backlash is a lot more vicious because of race, social status, and background. All of these come into play when projecting your anger on another person. I usually try to find out why this mother wanted to abandon the kids. Did she just give up, too stressed, no money, no support system, wanted her own life back? Clearly in the photograph it shows something of that effect. Families that are living in the posh sections of BK and up and coming areas. As well as Manhattan usually advertise and spread the word of many outreach programs for mothers in need of help. Families from higher status do this all the time. They call them boarding schools and most parents have little to no interaction with the child. I did read an article here I think two years ago where Caucasian mothers in Williamsburg and Park Slope were drowning their worries in smoking weed everyday around their kids because of the stress. However due to their financial background they can afford buying the weed and keeping their identities hidden. But using the ideas that well I am so stressed out I need the joint to keep me going.  In lower income areas there are slim to nill of any outreach or daycare facilities that are of acceptable upkeep to take kids there or it's too expensive. So what can be done to aleviate some of the stress WOC in lower income have with their children. If anyone says tubes tied or shoot the animals, please do no respond back I want to have civil discussion on this matter.

  • Oh, and not a defense of her behavior, just meant to show that sequence of events may not have happened as they seem.

Which means the photo could have been taken anytime between 6:15 and when dinosaurs roamed the earth (except that there weren't cameras back then).

Those poor children. Ironically, being abandoned by this monster is probably the best thing for them.

There is a good chance she'll get them back along with instructions for parenting class.

Here's your argument for enforced sterilization. poor kids.

    Margaret Sanger agrees!

Totally off topic, but good god those Facebook ads are annoying as hell. Gothamist, if you're going to sell a page takeover, can you at least implement a looping limit? A frequency cap would be even better.
