Video: Did You See Any Human Forms Flying Over NYC Recently?

Sometimes viral marketing campaigns can be pretty awesome, even if they go a little unnoticed. For example, we haven't received any tips from New Yorkers who saw people flying over the city recently... but it happened, and now there's video. This campaign is courtesy of the movie Chronicle, due out next month, and according to TechCrunch the masterminds behind it have been flying these human-like "kites" over New York and New Jersey for the past couple of weeks. They explain:

“Since the three main characters of the movie have the ability to fly, we came up with the idea of staging a few “flying people” sightings around NYC. We achieved that illusion by having 3 custom-made aircraft (which were shaped like human beings) fly above designated areas in NYC and NJ.”

Why is this scary? Cheesus. I actually feel safer that someone can do something like this and not have the cops over-reacting. Look, there are threats and then there are things like this. This is fun. Part of the job of law enforcement is to be able to tell the difference between someone trying to enjoy life and someone trying to end it. If law enforcement is doing its job, then you can have security and fun at the same time. Don't over-react to the cops NOT over-reacting to something for once. If you wet your pants at every tiny frickin' opportunity then we all lose.

I don't know how to tell you this...but a stranger could come up behind you & strangle you with his belt. By which I mean-- you are vulnerable. Presenting the illusion of safety through...what, searching bags on the subway?-- isn't helping anyone. This freaks you out? It could be a regular kite, or remote controlled plane. It could be a dufflebag, man.
