Chocolate Earth Swerves Into DUMBO's Orbit
An entire planet made entirely the most precious element in the known universe: chocolate [Ch]. This is the ideal fantasy evoked by the new boutique Chocolate Earth with its tantalizing name. The little shop will have its grand opening today 4 p.m. to midnight, during which time a chocolate meteor shower of free samples are promised. Of course, it's not as if DUMBO needed another place to buy chocolate, what with Jacques Torres over on Water Street, but when it comes to chocolate, it's not really about what you "need," now is it?
Conrad Miller, owner of Chocolate Earth, says his Front Street establishment will feature "a distinct collection of his favorite premier chocolate brands from all over the world to share his passion and knowledge of this popular, but often misunderstood, culinary treat. Brands include veterans, newcomers, up-and-comers, foodie and loca-vore household names, as well as treasures undiscovered." Over 20 brands and 80 types of artisan and craft chocolate bars will be sold, all of it conforming to the "values of fair trade cacao production and sustainability."
The whole angle and aesthetic here is "meant to emulate a ‘wine store, but for chocolate," says Miller, who claims Chocolate Earth is the 3rd largest chocolate store in NYC, and the largest in Brooklyn. We're all for it, but we'd also be excited if DUMBO got a Reasonably Priced Lunch Earth we could land on, too.
Chocolate Earth is located in The Shops at 145 Front Street, DUMBO Brooklyn
