Was Potential GOP Senate Candidate Cenedella Writing A Misogynist Blog?

Oh the Internet, always catching politicians with their mouths open. In the latest example of the dangers of the interwebs, the Times today digs into a website purportedly written by potential Republican senate candidate Marc Cenedella. Maybe potential representatives of the Empire State don't want to be on the record as being in support of making March 14 a Steak and Blow Jobs holiday?

The offending blog posts—which also included headlines like "Sexy vs. Skanky," "Dating Advice for Girly Girls," "He Stole My Weed" and "High Quality Dope"—were living on a website affiliated with his company, TheLadders. After the Times was pointed in their direction, however, they promptly went *poof* and the company tried to explain the mistake:

[Cenedella's] company released a statement Friday afternoon saying: “The site you are inquiring about (blog.theladders.com/rock) was not Marc’s actual blog, Cenedella.com. The site you saw was a maintenance staging site set up at blog.theladders.com/rock.” The statement also said that the “staging site contained testing content from a wide variety of sources, including spam from automatic spiders. We have since eliminated the potential for anyone to view the maintenance site.”

So maybe the potential Republican nominee didn't write in a post about the biblical justifications for a man to have more than one wife, "I wasn’t so sure about all this Bible stuff, but I’m starting to cotton to it?" Because the Santorum-set of the Republican party might not like that at all.

Cenedella is one of the front-runners to challenge Kristen Gillibrand for her Senate seat in the next election—partially because it appears the businessman and political neophyte is reportedly willing to pay for half the cost of the election.

This is one of the things that never ceases to amaze me about republicans, their comfort with using an incredible level of ignorance as a defense: "oh that's not really his blog, it is content generated automatically for testing purposes." So we are supposed to believe he and his staff are utter morons who have no idea how to operate simple blog technology that 12-year-olds can easily use? And they just happened to set it up to grab precisely the sort of content that fratty republican guys think is amusing?

Another thing that amazes me is the way guys like this exhibit so little self-awareness about the way they are pathetically trapped by their own misogyny. Their ideas about women are so clichéd and tastless that the only women who will have anything to do with them are precisely the sort of squealing, vacuous dingbats they make fun of. And who are so simple-minded and tasteless themselves that they'd rather be with a guy like this than be alone. Women who have no idea how to cultivate a personality that isn't a crude set of clichés, although doing so would allow them to date and marry a guy who isn't a gross, provincial, fratty pig.

Like, what does "testing" a blog even MEAN? You just set it up and blog. Lies lies lies lies without even a thought to making them believable.

Not all republicans hate women.  Some of them love them, like Gingrich.
  • Amber
But I thought Gingrich really just wanted to marry America?
  • What!  A Republican!  Who hates WOMEN?  & thinks they should be a serf-class with two divisions, sex providers & baby raisers?  & wants to actually legislate that?  Crazy.
  • I think this is all part of Gillibrand's masterplan.  "Upset that I co-sponsored the PIPA bill, the Senate's version of SOPA?  Hahah what are you going to do, vote for THIS guy?"

Acting like a 12-year old whose main interests are boobies and smoking daddy's cigs? I too am shocked as well.

I don't give a rats ass about Republicans except to see them lose but have we entered the era when all jokes have to be safe for all genders/ethnicities/mental states? Lighten up, Francine.

Be careful, your privilege is showing.

It would be nice if the people who expect our vote and hope to represent us as elected officials actually respected us.  All of us.

All I care about is that they pass laws that make sense for working people in this country rather than merely the rich. Every politician can call me every name in book and knock themselves out not respecting me as long as they do the right thing when and where it counts. That's how I judge an elected official rather than if they've passed the Miss Manners course or not.
  • Asking someone to not be a huge sexist isn't really equivalent to whether or not they lift their pinky when they sip their tea.
  • 'hey guys look how heterosexual i am. there's no way i'm a self-hating gay.'
