Video: Brokelandia, It Was Bound To Happen

If you watch Portlandia, you've probably seen some parallels between the Oregon-centric show and our very own, precious Brooklyn. And now Brokelyn has started their own series, called Brokelandia, which brings us a Brooklyn-based version of the IFC show. The first one, below, is all about the food, with the characters discussing the borough's finer dining experiences—from Do or Dine's fois gras doughnut, to Dun-Well Doughnuts vegan faux gras doughnut ("I thought it needed more meat"), to that pumpkin off of Steve Buscemi's stoop.

No oneis asking the important questions:

    Was the baby locally sourced?

Does she take Mandarin lessons at Mother Gaia Day Care given by transgendered perfomrance artist who also sells wooden toys made of reclaimed lumber salvaged from ye Olde Breukelen Radium Werks?

Why wasn't child services called? the kid has hipster parents for crissakes. She was probably birthed publicly in an art gallery.

    the original wasn't very funny.
    this is less so.

and that coffee place is annoying.  they turned off the velvet underground in the middle of a song!  who does that?  You change the music after a song has finished.
  • elhbomb
All this is is a poor take on Portlandia.
The fact that it was only 1 scenes worth of material didn't help the fact that it was not very finny.
  • Without even clicking "play" I'm going to call it 2012's version of "Lazy Monday": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...
  • Rayski_LaRue
i will be the first to say that chick is hot.
  • Evan Watkins
What Portlandia does well, this does horribly. Epic fail.
  • smalll
    go back to ohio.
Go back to Ohio !GO BACK TO OHIO ! ! ! !
  • Derek Munn
It's nice to know Brooklyn is Coney Island next to Clinton Hill/North-Bed Sty with a touch of Download and Atlantic/Pacific thrown in to make it look like it's not all brownstones and Cyclones.
  • poxod
I heard a rumor that the characters in Episode 2 will be Gothamist commenters. Look out people the satirists are gunnin for you next!
  • FutureMan
Proving once again that comedy is not as easy as it looks.
  • yetathirduselessaccount
I can't figure out how this could suck so bad. There's so much potential material to work with. Yet they chose to go too far with an arguably unfunny theme for the whole piece. SNL anyone?
  • HAHAHA you guys are awesome! great comments! thanks!
  • bigtimegeek
As a huge Portlandia fan, I really wanted to like it, but this pretty much sums up why I'll never live in Brooklyn. Oh, and the actors need some serious practice.
  • robingee
blurp blurp something something I'm too cool to like things or not like things opinions blurp blurp
  • Repressing this and returning to 1989 Brooklyn via L'Amour's memories in 3...2...

Gotta do something to trim down the hipster videos here.  Its just getting old.  The "Shit New Yorkers Say" last week and this one might as well have been done by the same jobless talentless artists collective.
  • estragon_nyc
I thought it was excellent.  But then, I also believe the dream of the Dodgers is alive in Brooklyn.
  • these two make carrie brownstein look like a good actor.
  • BotanistPrime
God. I only watched 30s of this. They could have at least tried to come up with a more original take on it rather than completely ripping off the Portlandia sketch
  • TBE11
Not even remotely funny, which is why they'll probably get a deal with IFC now.
  • CG
Unwatchable. Just because you have access to some film equipment doesn't mean it's necessary for you to use it, folks. It takes talent to make something non-pretentious and interesting.
  • that baby could really use some acting lessons.
  • Man, you guys are really going to hate our next homage series, Prospect Parks and Recreation. (spoiler: I play Ron, Tom, AND Andy)
  • sam
    Fuck you guys.
  • yeah, but what did you guys REALLY think??
  • HughGass
    unnecessary
  • poxod
I thought it was pretty funny. Nice job guys.
  • Mathieu
    agreed.

  • yeah, not so hot. I mean, the dude stumbles on his lines.
  • TWaller
    Atrocious.
  • An excellent film to demonstrate the need for good actors.
  • That. Was. AWFUL!
  • janazzle
oh i hope we can have another string of comments with he same likeness of that of the comments from 'shit new yorkers say"  where everyone says they are not real brooklyners (brooklynites?) and "gay!!!!1!!!" and maybe even a "they didn't even mention the dodgers"
  • janazzle
    * i don't have that view .... i just appreciate a good wrath

  • ennuipoet
I say we nuke the site from orbit...it's the only way to be sure.
  • nycpwt
    Ha. genius.
  • GlobalWombat
The parallels are there because Brooklyn is a landing point for many who should have never left Portland in the first place.
  • grandeur1
I'm only replying on this to say this video could have better sound.  Its incredible that sub-par videos are relying on visuals more than the audio
