At around 12:15 p.m. this afternoon, a taxi and another car were involved in an accident at 97th Street and Broadway. According to the FDNY, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and sustained head injuries. The identity of the victim is unknown, but they've been transported to St. Luke's Hospital. No injuries to the passengers in the vehicles were reported, and the NYPD couldn't tell us whether any criminality is suspected.

We'll update if we're able to obtain more information.

  • In such case, the victim may file for a brain injury claim. Let's just pray that the victim's head injury would not lead to any serious conditions.

    More bicycle bedlam in NYC!

Someone call Vacca, the city's under attack

  • blood soaked articles left at the scene for some time!  gruesome sight!

I'm surprised this didn't happen at 96th and Broadway - I see near misses all the time.

...or at any of the other dozens of dangerous and high traffic-volume intersections around the five boroughs.

    Lousy bicyclists...

  • There was no bicycle involved, you insensitive prick. One CAR hit another CAR, which slammed into an innocent PEDESTRIAN (pedestrian ≠ cyclist).

I was being ironic, you dumb prick. I'm surprised you could actually read the article.... You're the perfect example of the impulsive ignorance that attacks any sort of progressive transportation idea...Geez louise, this kind of attitude makes me gassy...

    Get jokes, much?

  • I'm sure NYPD will find some way to use this as an excuse to "clamp down" on cyclists, did you know the shooter ion the grassy knoll got away on a bicycle?

  • Pretty sure that was sarcasm. It's become pretty common, since there are so many news stories rail about cyclists and bike lane while stories like this are written as though cars jumping curbs is completely normal and acceptable.

Waiting for the "no charges were filed against the drivers" update...

What if a bicyclist cuts me off and I swerve out of the way of striking him?  In the process, I am hit by another vehicle which pushes me up onto the sidewalk seriously injuring a pedestrian. I avoided potentially killing a bicyclist but, to my misfortune, incidentally injured another pedestrian. People and cyclists jaywalk and run into the street sometimes without warning.  Charges are not always applicable, despite our outrage at the big bad SUV hitting the poor, helpless person walking on the sidewalk.  It's getting really boring hearing comments as ignorant and moronic as yours every time there is a motor vehicle accident that causes injury to a cyclist or pedestrian.  I bet when no charges are filed you will post another comment condemning the NYPD as lazy and incompetent.

  • Gwinny

You were making valid points until you started insulting me.  Yes, people jaywalk and cyclists do bad things -- and charges aren't *always* applicable when an accident like this happens. However, your "what if" story above is only a theory -- and if you did a quick scan of Gothamist stories about drivers killing or injuring cyclists and pedestrians, you will find that in a sad majority of these instances, no charges were filed.  And no, I've never said anything about the NYPD being lazy or incompetent. You seem like a pretty angry person, though, so I guess I'll have to cut you some slack for your impertinence.
