Joe Paterno Isn't Dead, Family Upset At Incorrect Reports

2012_01_joepa2.jpg
Joe Paterno this past month
After a CBS Sports college football blog reported that Penn State coaching legend was dead, many believed that the 85-year-old, who is battling lung cancer from a hospital room, had passed. But his family said, actually, no, JoePa is alive. His son Scott Paterno Tweeted, "CBS report is wrong - Dad is alive but in serious condition. We continue to ask for your prayers and privacy during this time."

According to Sara Ganim, reporter for The Patriot News, "Sources close to the Paterno family say that the family is tremendously upset with CBS Sports and other news media who have erroneously reported Paterno's passing. As the family has gathered by the legendary coach's side in Mount Nittany Medical Center, the 85-year old coach is still conscious and able to communicate, sources said. An earlier report that Paterno had been taken off breathing support by the family is also completely false, sources said."

The AP says that Paterno's condition is "serious." Paterno was fired in November, in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal.

Update, Sunday, January 22: Paterno died this morning; his family released a statement, "He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been."

    Paterno has really died.

  • AaronRed99

Well at 85 he's had a long and very pampered life. Which is more than the child rape victims can say.

  • Brian Mastro

Jerry Sandusky is the one accused of a crime NOT Joe Paterno

  • AaronRed99

Well maybe you wouldn't be such an apologist if it was your children getting raped while your beloved JoePa looked the other way.

  • Brian Mastro

He didnt look the other way

  • whitecastlerock

Fuck him. He didn't do shit while one of his precious football coaches molested children.

  • robingee

He didn't want to ruin their weekend!

  • Brian Mastro

i noticed you forgot that he reported what he knew (which was very little and not graphic and contained no details of rape or even molestation) about Sandusky ( who at the time was not his employee for three years) to not only the Atletic director curley but also the HEAD of the police department Gary Schultz

  • Mimihaha

And when nothing happened, he didn't go far enough to make sure this guy wasn't raping more children.

  • kenorasis

    Wrong.
    1) Paterno admitted that he was told by McQueary something of a "sexual nature" was happening between Sandusky and a little boy. He didn't get details because he didn't ask for them.
    2) He never reported it to the police.
    3) Gary Schultz is a Penn St. Vice President. He is not with the police.

You can argue that JoePa got screwed by Curley and Schultz, but, as he himself admits, he did not do the right thing and that kid and who knows how many others were abused for years because of it.

  • Brian Mastro

Mcqueary testified he did not go into great detail with Paterno never mentioned the word rape or sodomy. "sexual nature" could mean anything not nessacarily rape or even molestation. Mcq also testi and yes Gary Schultz was The VP but he also oversaw the University Police. In his preliminary hearing, The court ruled he was a police figure. Joe never admitted he didnt do the right thing, he said "with the benifit of HINDSIGHT, I wish i COULD HAVE done more". Also Joe Paterno was a football coach once he passed it to the right people (which he did) he did not need to be nor should he have been involved anymore, he was not a witness he had nothing to testify but what he was told by the actual witness. Joe was not the Police he could not arrest Sandusky himself or do anything but put it in the hands of the proper people who he trusted to take care of it, which he did, The problem is those people failed

Paterno has a moral obligation to save the boys.  He knew this shit was going on since 1998 and did NOTHING.  He did however allow Sandusky to continue having access to his locker rooms.  If you turn your head on someone doing something so disgusting in your "house" it is your problem.  You don't stop with telling your boss you keep screaming until it is stopped.  That is what any decent human does, Paterno failed.

  • kenorasis

I'll concede that Schultz was police, but Paterno never contacted Schultz anyway. "Sexual nature" between a grown man and a boy in the shower -- that's what Paterno heard and no, it can't "mean anything." That's just so beyond ridiculous, I'm not going to debate it. He had a clear moral obligation, he failed to do it and children got hurt.

  • Brian Mastro

    the GJR states that Paterno contacted Schultz and as for the sexual nature;
Mcq testified that he saw them both in the shower, naked, this is sexual in nature but is neither rape nor molestation

  • Mimihaha

Eeew, I just hit 'liked' by mistake. I want to reply and ask what on earth would you consider sexual in nature and still okay to be happening between an adult and a child, naked, in a shower?

  • Rocknrope

Christ man, what kind of human being are you that you're an apologist for this horrible situation just because it involves your beloved football team?

Do grown men tossing a pigskin ball around mean that much to you that you would make excuses for the rape of children?

    You disgust me.

  • robingee

To some people. football is RIDICULOUSLY important. To a very disturbing degree.

  • nunyadamn

He testified to the Grand Jury that he first heard rhythmic, slapping sounds that he thought were sexual in nature.  He looked in the shower and saw a boy with his hands against the wall being anally penetrated by Sandusky.  Yeah that's not rape.  That's on page 6 & 7 of the report of Investigation One.

Not sure how anal penetration isn't rape of a child.  I'm sure you have an excuse for that as well.

  • Brian Mastro

MCQ specificallysaid in his testimony that he DID NOT WITNESS RAPE

  • robingee

    wrong.
