Video: Undercity Explores An Abandoned Subway Station In Brooklyn

The things you find underground...

Beneath New York City lies a vast network of abandoned tunnels, caverns, nooks and crannies that the average joe will never see. But urban explorer Steve Duncan is not your average joe! As we've seen before, he and filmmaker Andrew Wonder really like getting dirty below grade. Their hunt to go where you shouldn't continues—and now over the next few weeks, Gothamist and MyBlockNYC are happy to bring you glimpses of where they've been. First up? An unfinished and abandoned IND station off the G train in Brooklyn!

Probably best if you don't go checking out that unused 1930s station yourself (since doing so is illegal and all), but how cool is it to see that it exists? Stupid Great Depression taking away our potential mass transit options! Check back next week for Duncan and Wonder's further adventures underground.

I love these videos of old abandon parts of NY.

This video was clearly made before underbelly filled that station with art. it's probably 3 years old at least.

Frankly this video is short on content and pointless. I've seen much better stuff from Sean Veggezzi or LTV.

    What is coming next?

Thats what I'm talking about! Want to see more! Thanks MyBlockNYC, Steve Duncan, and Gothamist

Agreed!  More of the nitty-gritty and less of the poppy-woppy, please, Gothamist!
  • RobertMosesSupposesErroneously
Hmm, looks tidier and better maintained than many active G stations!
  • Weird that he didn't film any of the elaborate graffiti there.  Funniest part about that station is if you get down there you are walking almost directly below the 90th police precinct.

I think the city buffed it all out, that's where the underbelly project was.
  • JAB84
Yeah- I was thinking that, too.  I've seen other Steve Duncan videos and he usually does show the graffiti.

We used to do this as children growing up in the city.  I cant believe grown men are acting as if they've discovered something unknown.
  • You also used to eat, poop, smile, and laugh as a child.   Let us know when you've taken care of all the stupid grownups who still do those things.

Unless you have pictures and video to prove it and share, it never happened.
  • We would do similar things when I was a kid, but in those days there were no such thing as cheap video cameras....video cameras were the realm of television news crews.  That left film cameras, and film cost a lot of money to develop.  You kids don't realize how good you've got it.  Now get off my lawn!

Nice!  I love things like this... keep up the good work

What line was this supposed to be? Obviously not the G considering how close they were to the Broadway station.
  • It was supposed to be a part of a second IND system but had to be abandoned because of money. Here's a little more on it: http://www.columbia.edu/~brenn...

I, totally didn't catch the mention of the IND. Damn, that would have been a very convenient station!
