Teenage Girl Spews Horrible Rant Against Transgender Seven-Year-Old In Girl Scouts

jan1112scout.jpg

Remember a few months ago, when seven-year-old Bobby Montoya gained national attention because he "liked girl stuff" and wanted to join his local Girl Scouts chapter? After a giant PR headache, the organization decided to let Montoya in, saying "if a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout." Despite the fact that Montoya didn't actually join his local troupe, the decision to allow him to do so instantly infuriated some conservative troupes, who called the move "extremely confusing" and an "almost dangerous situation."

Now, a 14-year-old girl from California is jumping on the hatemongering bandwagon, releasing this long, stilted, absolutely rage-inducing video calling for all Americans to boycott Girl Scout cookies. She accuses the group of "not being honest" with her, her family, her Scout sisters, and the American public, makes the case that "it's not safe to hide boys in Girl Scouts," and says she won't be funneling any more cash into their transgender-person-acceptance agenda anymore. Watch the video, then check out her backers, HonestGirlScouts.com, and start buying ALL THE GIRL SCOUT COOKIES EVER.

  • Watch "House of Lies" on HBO. The trans kid in that is a minor character, but very cute and adorable. I would totally support him in the Girl Scouts, so why should I treat RL Trans people any different? Hey, if Christians can base their entire worldview on fiction, I can too!

I'll be buying extra Girl Scout cookies this year.
  • Her argument is moot, as the term "girl" refers to gender and not sex. Girl scouts is NOT a female-only group. Anyone can self-identify as a girl because gender, much like race, is a social construct. She's just mad because girl scouts enforces gender stereotypes and profits off of the labor of unpaid, underage workers. She seems to have done a good deal of research, but she forgot to look up the definition of the word gender. If you can't be accepting, then leave the organization. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if that opinion is misinformed, or misguided.

where does it say the 7-year-old is transgendered?  ARTICLE LINK BAIT!
  • theoddfather
It's just so precious watching cultural conservatives fight tooth and nail against the inevitability of progress. It makes my day seeing the anger from them as the reluctantly come to the conclusion that the left has always and will always win this war.
  • Spoken from a board----not from the heart---that just says it all. Maybe she should go get that bug she's got shoved so far up her arse removed--maybe this will able her to speak properly and use that thing she has for a brain more wisely and more openly. [DONE]
  • Transgender girls ARE girls.
  • if your child dropped out of school by the 7th grade they say stuff like this.
  • Do any of you idiots have jobs? The video shows a smug-looking latinoish girl, someone check out to see if they are in this country legally first. Second, I'm buying a shit-load of cookies. You morons who'd rather piss and moan are what's wrong with the world.
  • vmalgot
Why do you assume that all Latinos are in this country illegally? The percentage of them who are is so small. In fact, the largest group of illegal immigrants in New York are Irish. But I'm sure you'd never suggest that we "check if they are in this country legally first."

    You should be ashamed.
  • Does it really matter?  I mean...  This is the "Girl Scouts" where're talking about!  Please do something more constructive with your time and energy!  This useless crusade is not going to get you ANYWHERE!  I'm sorry that you don't have wise enough parents in your life that could tell you that your efforts to exclude a growing section of "American" society from ANY organization, no matter how insignificant, is at its core - discrimination!  Your elders and peers should be teaching you to advocate tolerance towards everyone in our society!  The mere fact that you're advocating something completely opposite, shows that you're not REALLY worthy of the "Girl Scouts" in the first place!  And what are you talking about "safety", like some "transgender" boy is going to go "crazy" just by being around actual girls!?
  • canofpeas
If your child can stand in front of a urinal and take a piss, it's a boy.
  • So, if I am female-bodied and use an apparatus to pee standing up, then I'm a boy, right? So weird that you'll only support FTM and not MTF.
  • canofpeas
...not amazed that you don't get the point.
  • I'm not surprised that you didn't get mine. Clearly your definition of gender is rather flimsy, since it was so easily defeated. Maybe you need to rethink it a bit.
  • if your child dropped out of school by the 7th grade they say stuff like this.
  • thesporkgirl
politics aside if your child is capable of that much hate you definitely did something wrong.
  • Disgusting. Its a shame, because this girl probably is only parroting the views of the bigoted people (parents) around her, but this kind of a video is going to leave a mark on her future.

Can't say too much more that hasn't already been said, but I will mention this; If this is that much of a hot topic for her and her supporters, why wouldn't they go and start her own girls scouting group? I mean they seem to say that the financial assistance that the group provides is inconsequential, so what's stopping them? It seems that GSUSA's position on the issue is quite clear.
  • Wow, so much anger.  I don't think some of these people really understand that transgender has nothing to do with being gay or straight, for one thing. And that if your son wants to join the Girl Scouts and you believe he is transgender, there are years of backstory that none of us have seen .  It is not the equivalent of thinking you are a robot or cowboy.  These kids have displayed this behavior since birth and it probably took the parents years to recognize and then understand what was happening and even more time to get up the gumption to make a case for their son joining the Scouts.  As for the Gay-basher up there, I suppose you could see it as wrong that people dress up like super heroes but maybe in the proper context you could make an exception, Halloween or a costume party?  Many bigots against the gay community harp on about the gay agenda and being "in your face" etc, well, there is a reason for that.  First, it is your perception.  You are un-accepting of the gay community so you feel uncomfortable in any different situation.  Secondly, until people are granted full legal rights, they are treated as second-class citizens.  Gay people in America are treated like second class citizens.  It is not right, nor just, nor a very Christian or spiritual attitude to have.  It is ignorant and cruel.  Ok, I'm done.
  • JacksBacks
Geez- I'm glad that this enlightened life-view is coming to light now-  I'm an adult male. . . and for years and years now,  I've had to hide the fact that: I'm really a lesbian trapped in a man's body!
I'm hoping that I will now be able to join 'Shapes Fitness For Women', and be able to use their changing locker-rooms without being judged and labeled as a 'Perv'!
God Bless America for fostering this enlightened view of life in our country!

  • you can see the comments and post comments by clicking on her screen name HonestGirlScouts.
You will see most people there are calling her a racist.

  • Hot teenager - Would smash
  • It has been my experience that people who can't accept or tolerate non-traditional gender roles are usually way confused about their own gender identity. Methinks they protest too much. In what way does someone else's gender choice affect you? Y'all need to evolve.
  • EqualRightsMeansEqual
Ok, so I'm prepared to receive a lot of "feedback" on this one. I do not offer an opinion one way or the other in regards to transgender, et al. Each person has their own opinion, and that is their right. I do agree with the video that GSUSA should have been more upfront - based solely on the fact that there are already transgender members. Don't stop reading yet, I'm not done.

I do have issues with playing the gender card - or anything similar. I honestly don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm sure I'm about to. While this is a different issue, there is a "black history month". However, when someone at my High School (back in the '90s) asked why there wasn't a "white history month", he was beaten to within an inch of his life for being a racist.

Back to the point at hand. It seems that women have been "infultrating" (for lack of a better word) many of the all-male institutions in the name of equality. It shouldn't go one way, without going the other. Darned Newtonian logic.

Finally, my thought to the young lady in the video... if you want to take everything at face value, that is fine. I will treat you as a lady, or as my equal, but not both. You get one OR the other. And since you seem to want to follow the "letter" of the law, rather than the "spirit" of the law, that's fine.  "All MEN are created equal." Shut up and get back in the kitchen, little girl.
  • Politburo
Violence isn't an acceptable response in almost any situation. So I'm not sure what exactly your point was with that little diversion.
  • What scares me more than anything is that poor seven-year-old girl is being attacked by people who simply do not have the remotest grasp of what they are talking about, which is the real problem IMHO. Reading through the comments on here makes that crystal clear... We've gone from trying to be sensitive to the needs of children to demanding gender purity tests before allowing someone to join the Girl Scouts. Talk about going off the rail!

While I do agree that there are young children who, in their attempts to find a place in our world, do imagine themselves as a multitude of different things.. including aliens, robots, and the like. BUT, there are also those who have a very real misalignment between the biological sex and the gender in their brains. It's not something you learn, or suddenly wake up feeling one day. It's is very real, and very confusing feeling that one experiences constantly. It doesn't begin when they are young, or when they become teenagers, or even reach adulthood. It begins at birth, and will often grow worse over time, as the disjointed feeling (known as dysphoria) grows.

I wish when encountering something unknown, others would choose to educate themselves, rather than just passing judgement (often wrongfully). The girl scouts isn't allowing boys to join.. as transgender girls are still girls.
  • Gadea
It's complicated and it's sad, because the boy feels like a girl.
And no one should be rejected, bullied, picked upon, singled out, because they
feel they were born in the wrong gender.
That is really tough, difficult for the child.
But still, the girls, that are comfortable as girls, born as girls, shouldn't have someone around
them, that was born a boy, while they are thinking that person is a girl.
Because they are not a girl, they are male.
    It's not good.
  • Gadea
She has a point, kids are kids.
7 year old boys, dressed like girls, hanging around girls, is a problem.
However, much the boy feels like a girl, the equipment is male.
The girls think they are dealing with a girl just like them and they are not.
  • I should have joined the girl scouts when I was 18.  It would have made it easier for me to get laid.
  • I'm gluten-free, but I guess I'm going to start buying girl scout cookies as gifts!
  • DHumes
Actually, a transgender boy would be a biological female who self identifies as a male.

Then there are people like myself who have XXY chromosomes and possess both a penis and ovaries. Its not black and white by any means.
  • BrigidBernadette
So doesn't that make you trans-sexual rather than trans-gender?
  • She doesn't know the difference between transgender girls and transgender boys. What she is scared of is her own ignorance.

    "Teenage Girl Spews Horrible Rant"

Gothamist "writers" show their bias yet again by making up stories
  • gertah
My default position on LGBT issues tends toward tolerance, education and inclusion. That said, this particular issue is complicated. For one thing, the involved parties are children- a protected class. For another, the group at hand is a private organization that, by its very name and purpose, is meant for one gender, as defined by medicine and society.
Girl Scouts is a private organization- they don't have to include would-be members who do not fit the defined class for whom the group was formed. While I personally would prefer to see a Girl Scouts Organization that promotes tolerance and inclusion, and finds a way to allow all minors who "identify" as girls, I also see this girl's point. She has been part of GS for a number of years, has worked hard to build and  maintain the organization according to what they held themselves out to be, and now she feels betrayed.
I think it's very unfair to call this video a "horrible rant". It's not a rant, nor does she say anything even remotely horrible. In fact, she steers clear of judging anyone or making any kind of remarks whatsoever on gender issues. Her remarks concern what she believes to be a betrayal of traditional GS rules, and GS members, by surreptitious means. Her urging of a cookie boycott is not meant to protest transgender children, it is meant to protest the lack of transparency and commitment, as she sees it, to the Girl Scouts' policies which state that the group is for girls only.

It is not hard for me to imagine that the dynamics of a GS troop might change once transgender girls join. It would change the topic and tone of discussions. It would also affect things like sleeping, bathing and dressing facilities. Most importantly, it would put girls in the position of having to confront issues such as gender and transgender identification, at young ages. Perhaps all of these will be necessary steps for GS to take in order to remain relevant and fair. But it's crazy to try to make light of this topic -and pretend that the answer were simple-for political correctness' sake, or to expect that there won't be growing pains in the process.

Speaking of growing pains, doesn't anyone else remember the Family Ties episode where Jen was a Sunshine Cadet and mom couldn't make the meeting so dad went instead? He was the only guy in the room and, of course, the topic of conversation turned to sex and.... well, let's just say that 80s sitcom melodrama ensued.
  • jza1218
So all I need to do is pretend I'm a tranny and I can walk into a ladies locker room without any repercussions?

As long as I carry around a printout of the wiki for that "third gender" thing I'm good right?
  • Politburo
    Yup, have at it!
  • 4momnyc
This is so upsetting.  i just watched this with my (gotham) NYC based Girl Scout.  My whole family completely disagrees with this girl.  Gothamists, have no fear - go buy/order as many boxes of cookies as you'd like!  Whether it's just to spite this girl, or because you NEED a samoa!  (Cookies are on sale in the NYC based region for about another 2 weeks!)
  • youngpro
where on earth does it say this boy is transgenered?  what a scam baited article this was.
  • Emmily_Litella
What a little bitch.  Also can’t say she’s entirely wrong.  I’m as confused as a little trans questioning birl.
  • Never mind what she said, just another foot-solider for antiquated, misguided values. Why did the transgender kid want to join the girl scout in the first place?! Not everyone is meant to have everything they want. Forcing 'her' way into established traditions regardless of how wrong or illogical that tradition might be, is plain stupid, it's only going to generate more tension. GS was never meant to teach how a boy can feel like a girl, the fact they try to let him lie his way through is even more damaging; I wonder who gave the boy the idea that this whole thing was going make him content.
But in the end, it doesn't matter, I think it's stupid to ever conceive that mankind will live in harmony when everyone wants to be 'unique' and different at the same time.
  • Quote..Girl scouts are a stepping stone to the American Nazi Party..End Quote
  • I would have to say that neither side is completely right. Gender is a lifelong issue. Transgender is perfectly legitimate. However it is confusing to people at a certain age. There should be a scouts for transgendered/questioning because at such an age one can't be sure.
  • most of you don't have to worry about what your gender is. if you were identified as male as a child, you are a boy, if you were identified as female, you are a girl.
this 'boy' is not so lucky. he was born in the wrong body, with the mindset of a girl and the body of a boy. You people have no idea how privileged you are. while you are calling this little girl a boy and saying SHE should not be allowed to be a girl scout, a young woman across the country is being murdered for being transgender. these people are persecuted and tortured just for being who they always wanted to be.
so please, in your comments, call the girl a GIRL. even if she doesn't have a female body, she IS female.
trust me. I know many transgender people. I've seen the pain they go through, the teasing, etc. just do this one little thing to help fight intolerance.
  • the4thcoming
"this 'boy' is not so lucky. he was born in the wrong body, with the mindset of a girl and the body of a boy"

Ummm, yea, that's called a psychological disorder. And his parents are passing over his problem for society to deal with, instead of getting him the therapy he needs, they're feeding into his delusional state of mind by forcing him in the wrong direction, sabotaging and corrupting young minds to male decisions they shouldn't have to at an inappropriate age.
The selfish and spiteful gay agenda.

Some pieces of shit for parents he has.
  • cprensky
you don't help your argument by referring to a "selfish and spiteful gay agenda" unless the goal is to earn a spot on Rick Santorum's campaign staff.

nope. pick up a DSM-IV and educate yoself. :D
  • Mr. Know-It-All
Actually, the DSM IV contains a set of diagnostic criteria for "gender identity disorder." So, yes, it is a recognized psychological disorder.
  • Actually.. Gender Identity Disorder (now known as Gender Dysphoria) is only one symptom of a much larger condition known as transsexualism, which is biological in nature. So  while you are correct to say "GID/GD is a recognized psychological disorder".. the actual condition causing it is not.

  • Mr. Know-It-All
This is how you talk about a 14 year-old girl? If this is how women treat each other, I can't imagine why anyone would want to join Girl Scouts.
  • LadyMissM
This is how I talk about a 14 year-old girl who decided to post her own opinions (whether she actually wrote them or not) in an internet video. Might as well learn sooner than later that there are consequences for posting crap online.
  • nunyadamn
You weren't aware that women can be horribly cruel to each other? That is how a lot of eating disorders begin.

Although that has nothing to do with the atmosphere that Girl Scouts creates for girls.
  • Mr. Know-It-All
I hope Jamie Feldmar and Gothamist are proud of themselves for having exposed this 14 year-old girl to name-calling and vicious accusations with their bizarre distortion of this story. Whether or not you agree with her argument (and I don't), it is inconceivable to me that any reasonable, intelligent person could have actually listened to this and still characterize it as a "horrible rant," "hate speech," "hatemongering," "rage-inducing," etc. It isn't even directed at transgendered youth; it's directed at the Girl Scouts. What a hack job.
  • JC
"Self-righteous Blogger Spews Horrible Rant Against Fourteen-Year-Old In Girl Scouts" - there, fixed it for ya.

Unfortunately, "hate speech" has devolved into anything you disagree with. It makes dissent or a contrary opinion so radioactive that you won't go near it.

If your argument lacks intellectual, philosophical or morally unacceptable underpinnings, just cry racist, sexist, homophobe, xenophobe or any other damn thing you can think of.

    You just won the argument!

  • Mr. Know-It-All
Then they should be the target of Gothamist's "expose." Not a 14 year-old, whom Gothamist has now contributed to making the target of Internet bullying.
  • While I think this is hateful and intolerant, I think people should still be allowed to be hateful and intolerant. It is a shame, but its the dark side of freedom.
  • "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
  • Good thing she lives in CA. She doesn't have to join the Girl Scouts of Colorado!

This is the kind of thing that she'll cringe about someday. Or not, but probably should.
  • Roger_the_Shrubber
It was hardly a "horrible rant" as paranoid Gothamist seems to think, just a young girl expressing her opinion in a calm manner, regardless of whether you agree with her or not.
  • brooklynRick
Boys belong in the Boy scouts and Girls belong in the Girl scouts.  If you child is neither then perhaps some other activities can be arranged.  Its not fair to confuse children who do not have these issues and impose a more complicated life view upon them than is necessary at that age.  I wish Mr/Mrs Montoya the best but their parents do not ned to impose these issues upon others who can wait until a later more mature age to encounter them
  • Rachel Woodward
Funnily enough, the Boy Scouts of America (an uber-conservative organization who bans homosexuals from being enrolled) does enroll many, many girls every year between the ages of 14-21.  It's here: http://www.scouting.org/scouts...
  • flippycanoo
Girls and boys are conditioned into particular gender roles, so it's not a matter of not being confused, it is a matter of society imposing rigidity. Perhaps if we did not have the Boys and Girl Scouts, people could do what they want and be what they want, and not have to be brainwashed into how to dress and what career is appropriate for them. So I agree, this person should not be in the girl scouts, because it is a concept that is outdated.
  • the4thcoming
You were speaking of the gay agenda when you posted that, right?
  • flippycanoo
The Gay Agenda is a made up construct. Let's face it, everyone has political agendas. So using the term "Gay Agenda" is just a slogan, it doesn't mean anything except as a code to some people who have their own agenda. One could call it the tyrannical imposition of particular religious views on a free country agenda, though I don't. You are not making any statements that can be rationally addressed, just buzz words. If you have a point, then make it. If you want to disagree, I don't have a problem with that. But your phrase "The Gay Agenda" is just a label.
  • the4thcoming
You're trying to apply a form of reverse psychology to the term "agenda". Which might be successful when apllied correctly to simple minded and gullible individuals. But no need to waist your efforts here.
Yes, there IS a gay agenda. Simply because anytime there is a particular motivation involved that gets thrown around with so much force that it interferes with hobbies, beliefes, children's education and our military etc, I would pretty much say that its a MAJOR agenda.
Now you can go and pull the bigot card or homophobia card, but its just an attempt to muffle anyone who doesn't pity your condition, which is a highly overused tactic that only worked on some. Tracy Morgan and eminem just to name a few.
  • flippycanoo
Huh? Did you read what I wrote? I said that everyone has an agenda, whatever side they are on, so yes, gay people have an agenda. So do people from the other side. However, without defining your label, what you call "the gay agenda" is not something I get. You are looking at it through your lens of a gay agenda, but what you don't get is that I was not advocating putting boys in the girl scouts, I was advocating ending the girl scouts so this issue doesn't have to come up.

Also, I was not looking through the gay agenda because gay issues are different from transgender issues, completely. You may not know this but many transgender people are actually not gay. They are different issues. I actually also never pulled any bigot card, that was in your mind, and never used the word homophobia. I was talking about logic and being informed of facts.
  • flippycanoo
The best thing to do is end the girl scouts completely. Who needs girls who are conditioned to grow up to fulfill proscribed fembot stepford wife roles anyway? If this girl would like to keep all things male out of the girl scouts, I hope she also will not allow girls to play any sports or wear pants. She is too young to remember debates in the 60s that allowed Laura Petrie to wear pants only in one scene of the Dick Van Dyke show. In fact, today, most girls can be called cross dressers because they wear pants. Her girl scout rules, though, contradict this, and say that they can dress any way they want. Not if they are a so-called "real" girl, whatever that is.

Also, I wish she could look a little less like she is reading cue cards. It's unladylike.
  • This girl is so. boring. Now I want cookies.
  • Harmonization
No way, too delicious.  I wouldn't boycott Tagalongs if it resulted in world peace.
