Reminder: It's Almost Time For Weeknight Hell On The Subway

A quick reminder that the dreaded consecutive weeknight subway closures are almost upon us—starting this Monday and going through Friday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the 4, 5, and 6 will be completely stopped between Grand Central-42nd Street and Atlantic Avenue while workers attempt to "FASTRACK" (emphasis theirs) repairs. Because 17 line disruptions this weekend simply aren't enough!

Upcoming weeknight FASTRACK shutdowns include the 1, 2, and 3 between 34th Street and Atlantic Avenue from February 13-17; the B, D, F, and M between 69th Street and West 4th Street from February 20-24; and the A, C, and E between 59th Street to Jay Street from March 12-16. The MTA advises straphangers to add 20 minutes to their commute, which is patently ridiculous—the only safe move is to stay at home from now through March.

Then again, a poll of Gothamist readers revealed that 86 percent of you preferred the MTA shut lines down on weeknights over entire weekends, so maybe you're already too deep into your Apocalypse House to care.

Rats, That means the express bus will be crowded tomorrow am!

  • How could anyone not prefer an occasional weeknight shutdown to constant weekend shutdowns? I can deal with shitty transit at night for a week a lot better than I can not being able to go anywhere on the weekend.

Unless you're a night worker, then I understand.
