Q Train Will Be Screwed Most Weekends Until March

The MTA's been planning to screw up your winter commute with consecutive subway shutdowns for a while, but we thought the Q train was safe—until now. Starting in January and lasting through March, there will be no Q train service across parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, so get ready to bundle up for your good pal the shuttle bus instead.

Shuttles will replace the Q between the Atlantic Avenue and Prospect Park stations on almost every weekend after New Year's Day through the beginning of March, and the train will not run in either direction between Prospect Park and 57th Street/ 7th Avenue in Manhattan. Looks like you'll be taking the local line, baby, if you can get out of Brooklyn to begin with.

Here are the shuttle days: January: 7-9, 14-16, 21-23, 28-30; February: 11-13, 18-20, 25-27. The shuttle will stop at Prospect Park - Lincoln Road at station entrance, 7th Avenue - Flatbush Avenue at Park Place, and Atlantic Avenue-Pacific Street - 4 Avenue at Pacific Street. Check the MTA site for more details.

The MTA says the disruptions are for track work and replacements that couldn’t have started until the Brighton Line rehabilitation project was complete. Between this and the F and G trainpocalypse, you should probably just cancel any plans you have until, roughly, June. [via Sheepsehead Bites]

    a. Why don't they then at least make the B train local through from Atlantic south, instead of leaving entire communities in Brooklyn stranded?  b. Why don't they post the full information above, instead of this "TWO WEEKENDS" at a time bullshit, so people can plan ahead? c. Since this has already been going on for six months, why are they pretending this is temporary? d. With this mild winter, I can't wait to see what they blame the inevitable delay on.

Phewww...for a second I thought they were screwing with my commute to/from Astoria!

I'm still mourning the W train and the G that went all the way to Steinway...

As I understand it, those Brookylnites should be used to a Kafkaesque commute by now.

    Wrist-slit-worthy.

If it is "Through March" wouldn't that mean the March weekends as well? If all I see are January and February dates and nothing for March, that leads me to believe it is actually only TO March or THROUGH FEBRUARY, correct???

  • But it's still running in Queens?

Q terminates at 57th Street on weekends, unless the 7 line is out too, which is when they're extended to Astoria.

Nnnnnooooooo-Oh, Manhattan and Brooklyn?  Eh, nevermind.

Ugh. Miserable. The shuttle buses make me want to gouge my eyes out.

    there's a Q train?

  • There used to be. Now it's more of a slightly mobile short-stay hotel named "Q".
